Being a reasonably attractive female, if I'm alone in a hotel bar, I'm constantly interrupted no matter what I'm doing. It's pick-up central, even in higher-end hotels, and especially at conferences. I avoid the bar for that reason.

Be glad you only get interrupted when you have an ereader in hand!

Yeah, right.
Time to trade in your wife for a new model that doesn't like to shop.

Please spare us the "you're locked into buying books from amazon" speech.
What I do when someone asks "Is that a Kindle?" I answer. "No, it's not. It's actually better. It's a Sony Reader." I don't do it to dis the Kindle. I do is to dis the fact that all the press seems to know is the Kindle. So maybe it would get the person to actually go out and look at a reader that's not a Kindle and get to know that there are other readers out there besides Amazon.

You have to learn the trick to dealing with annoying kids. If you are close enough to the person who is supposed to be dealing with the kid(s), you make a comment just loud enough for that person to hear. if you are not close enough, you go close enough and make the comment. That gets the person to then go deal with the kid(s).

an audiobook for text reception is from my POV as comfortable as an old school modem compared to a DSL connection
For me, I find I take in more reading a book then I do listening to it. I can read where there is some background noise such as the TV. But if I was to try to listen to a book, I'd need the TV off.

The problem here is the software is configured not to allow proper quoting. And to multi-quote is just a pain.

Ok, a coffeehouse has an unpleasant stench.

Don't count on it. Even if you directly ask many parents (even if after dropping the hint), they either just don't care and ignore you or get upset for accusing their little darlings of misbehaving.
