@mubertmumphrey: That's still a bit weird, but glad to know it's working with the latest version .

@sevimli: You can't. (And that would break Amazon's TOS, so don't ask).

It is probably worth noting more clearly thar the "random" SS feature is not actually random since the pics are still shown in sequence. Yes the sequence is shuffled at each reboot but since you practically never reboot the SS is in essence just sequential. Still a nice feature though!

OK, how can I SSH then? What is USBNet for? Could you please give me some directions?

NiLuJe, is the information in this post (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...6&postcount=97)

@paxxus: Yeah, didn't really think about the wording when writing the post, but you're right, I'll try to make this less ambiguous .

@sevimli: SSH *to* the Kindle. And tethering. (Meaning sharing the host's network with the Kindle, not the other way around). Check the old USBNetwork thread.

@csaket: Yes. For what you want to test, I'd start with just switching I18N.ttf and see how it goes .

Updated USBNetwork to v0.14.N.

* Fixed telnetd to print /etc/issue again
* Rebuild dropbear with the scp client applet (dbscp)
* Tweaked the nopasswd dropbear patch. It's now only enabled with a cli flag. We use this to properly check passwords when enabling the WiFi mode, in order to avoid leaving a gaping security hole... (Meaning, if you enable the WiFi mode, you'll need to know your root password!).

Updated USBNetwork to v0.15.N.

* Patched dropbear to be able to use the pubkey auth method. (Shared keys). Drop your public keys in usbnet/etc/authorized_keys (OpenSSH format). Works fine with an OpenSSH ssh-agent here .

Just thought I'd share a real useful way to use the SS hack. There are a dozen or so of the original screensaver images that I find acceptable, but each has the black bar at the bottom telling you to use the power switch to turn it on (Duh...).

I used a graphics program to black out the text on the bar, and replaced it with my name and phone number, so anyone finding it or stealing it will have my contact info displayed frequently when it sleeps.

You can take that a step further EldRick by using the password protection on the settings menu to make it so they can't use the Kindle at all and will still see your contact info.

Yep, I have been doing that for months. And as Jason says, add the password lock and maybe you will get your kindle back if it gets lost.

Updated USBNetwork to v0.16.N.

* Dropbear prints /etc/issue again by default.
* Dropped scp applet from dropbear, since the Kindle's busybox already has the scp applet compiled in. -_-"
* Added another option for WiFi devices. You can now start only SSHD, while staying in USB MS mode. (Useful for sftp/sshfs sync over wifi).

NiLuJe, sorry to be a pain, but I have tried everything I can think of to get the font zip folder to work and it just won't. I did locate your zipped folders of these files on 4shared.com, and they downloaded flawlessly, but you don't offer the font install files for the k3 on that site as of yet. Would there be anyway for you to upload the k3 font install files on 4shared.com?

@BryanW: I don't distribute these anywhere else. The only other place not maintened by me where you'll find them, and be sure that:

1/ They're the same files, unaltered
2/ Has my authorization to do so

is NogDog's blog.

(I'm not against spreading the files around, so long as there's a link back to here, and no one claims to be coming up with something without giving credits back to the different contributors involved. And does a good job of keeping up with the updates to avoid spreading old/buggy files. But I'd prefer, if one wished to do so, to at least ask me about it/post here about it).

Well for what it's worth, the link to NogDog's site worked, so I'm not sure what's going on with trying to download your files from this site only to end up having the files corrupted on my end. Maybe it's something going on with all 5 of my computers, plus a friend's, and my mom's pc (which are in a different households and which I also tried to download the files onto and still had the same corruption problem), but I doubt it. Thanks for the link to NogDog's site though. Much appreciated.

As for the 4shared site, I just assumed that you had posted them there. Here's a link to the site in case you want to check it out:
