				Pixel Qi e-readers - H1 2011?

I wonder however if Pixel Qi was really as easy on eyes as e-ink.

It is all about the compromises, it may not be as good in that respect as e-ink but it is a lot better at motion and colour than e-ink and better for reading and battery life than lcd.

Q1 2011 in reality usually means limited quantity in Q4 2012. Happy waiting.

Yeah those "half-a-dozen" partners that were about to be revealed both around CES and again at Computex turned out to be two small no-name startups that seem rather unlikely to deliver on anything. Way to wrangle in the big players. At least they did deliver on those expensive DIY kits, so there are a few people in the world with the early gen screens.

As far as being "easy on the eyes"...yes, and probably moreso, since it's viewable in any lighting condition. The reflective mode contrast is likely similar, though the white reflectance is not as high as that of the better EPDs, but then you can supplement with a low backlight setting to improve viewability and reduce eye fatigue in less-bright conditions. Hooray, another Pixel Qi announcement saying that they expect to be in mass production at some point in the future. They must be looking for another paycheck from investors.

Wake me up when they actually have a real product in stores, if that ever happens. |

I wonder if he made a similar comment on Toyota's website about how hard it is to see the road at night without the headlamps turned on. |

I'll take his view about using it as a reader with a grain of salt.

I haven't given up on Pixel Qi yet. However, I remember sitting for years thinking eink would never come to market. I remember its early announcements and how long it took to get actual eink devices. There is a chance that Pixel Qi will not deliver, but it could just be that it takes a while to get products out in this field.

LOL, Apple doesn't get "ideas to market within a year"... They just keep quiet about things until they're close to shipping, since they don't have to worry about drumming up financial support for product development like start-up companies have to do. Apple's product development cycle is just as long as every other company's... You just don't get to watch the whole thing.

I'm beginning to feel like you. Pixel QI is very much about talk/press-releases and very little about action. We're still waiting for a device with the actual screen incorporated.
