This looks complicated to me but I would like to try it out. But I'm also afraid of making my computer vulnerable, as chaley says here:

Do not turn off any firewalls.
Especially when I'm not a techie person.

But this is a really great feature....

You'll be okay. Just password protect your Calibre Content Server and you should be fine. I was finally able to get my K3 to take the authentication and after that I'm in and out very easily. It's a nice add-on very honestly. To be able to download your content wherever you are is great.

I seem to be having a problem viewing it through the nook browser. I can view it just fine through firefox, but when I try to access it through the nook, I'll see the banner at the top, the search bar and the arrows with books x to xx of xxx. When the page first loads, I can see books listed but then it goes to just the top banner part and nothing else is listed. I can hit the arrows and have the number at the top change, but never see anything below the top banner.

It actually looks great while loading, but once the page finishes loading, all the stuff below the banner disappears.

for some reason, when i access the server from my k3, the server doesn't wqnt to let me download files larger than 1MB. it doesnt give any error, but the file doesnt download. i have verified that i can download large files directly from mobileread without trouble, though. is this a known limitation in the calibre server? is there somethimg wrong with my setup?

No, serving 10MB files should be no problem.

K3 can't access content server

Hi,
I have read all the replys in this post and still can't access the content server.
I have the Kindle 3 and my content server is running via the server port 8080.
I know my IP.
But when I enter: http://myIP:8080 or http://myIP:8080/moblie
I only get the following response: Your kindle is unable to load the requested page.
The content server is running, I tested it. And the kindle can load other homepages.

So what am I doing wrong?

Is myIP inside your home (wifi, local address such as 192.168 ...), or an external address? If it's external, have you set up your router to send to the machine running Calibre? If it's internal, have you tried removing the password? Can you access the content server via a browser from another machine (I know you said you tested it, but did you do the test from the same machine or another one)?

Good Point! Took the wrong IP. It's working now.
Thank's a lot

Are you sure it is the size of the file? I just figured out that if the Title metadata has a : in it, the Kindle browser won't download the file. I am not sure why IE automatically converts this, but the Kindle 3 browser does not.

I have changed the metadata on a couple to omit the :, but is there a way for the web server to automatically substitue a - (or even an _ like the program itself does for file names)?

Dan

PS: I just figured out I can select all titles and use the search and replace (experimental) feature to replace the : with -. Still might be better to have this in the web server, but it might help temporarily.

Request for relative paths for source files?

Would it be possible to make the web server use relative paths for all the files? The web pages seem to use absolute paths (/static) for the .js and .png files.

Can these be made to be relative instead?

Thanks,
Dan

The reverse proxy I am using will only rewrite headers, not the html files themselves.

Alternatively, hosting everything under /calibre would work for me as well (as I could create one alias and then /calibre/mobile or /calibre/get ... would all work).

It is working great from a host header virtual server, but I would like to go through a server that has an SSL cert on it. (so https://server.domain.com/books is redirected to my internal calibre server).

Now that I think about it, I wonder if I can add an alias in the calibre server so that /calibre is treated the same as /.

Dan
