I've checked the iPad charger and it does not have a short connection between pins 2 and 3 (D+ and D-). So that matches the spec so far.

Isn't the iPad charger 10v tho?

According to the spec, the charger is 10W USB... if it's USB then it's 5V... that's the USB spec...

Aah thanks for clearing that out. I heard that a regular USB port wasn't strong enough to charge the iPad, and that it was a 10(something) compared to a regular USB port, so I assumed it was voltage here the culprit

I already posted in another thread a link to a charger that will work with the 350 and that is sold in England. http://powertraveler.com Click on "Travel Adapter". You will also need to buy a micro USB tip.

That, or there's something wrong with my 350, but it does charge just fine when plugged into the computer.

The iPod Mains/USB charger model A1102 wont charge the PRS-650.

A regular USB port will trickle charge an iPad even though the iPad displays "not charging".

I suspect that this is due to the standard USB having a rating of 500mA whereas the iPad charger is rated at 2A (4x the power) so whilst it'll charge the iPad, it'll take longer and the iPad will apparently tell you it isn't charging. For Sony eReaders, the PSU normally comes with the same rating (2A) but is happy (but slower) charging from a standard USB...

I'm using the power adapter that came with the Apple component video cables for the iPhone/iPod. Works perfectly fine. My 650 charged in about an hour.

5 volts x 2 amps = 10 watts (for iPad according to earlier post)

5 volts x 0.7 amp = 3.5 watts (appx. what the Sony Readers use for charging)

If you try to pump 3 times the rated wattage into a device it is not going to go well. However, if Mr. Anal Retentive will stick with more standardized chargers for cellular phones which are typically no more than 4 watts then they should work, and ditto for AC adapters designed to accept USB cables.
