for clarification he has the kindle 2 and yes he actually let me read a small novella on his when I was back in my 'I will never buy an ereader" stage. It's eink I'm sure i would enjoy the K3 reading as well, but it's no different than reading on my Nook. The reading experience on my Nook is outstanding. My point is the both are eink and what separated the two was the nook has a more "NOW" feel to it especially compared to the kindle. I'm sorry when this is your 3rd crack at it and you are still navigating around like it was 1990 in this day and age of technology( seriously tv's are 3D now and you navigate around with a directional arrows or a stubby joystick? Really?) then you brought nothing new to game. Sony and Nook have at least brought some modern technology. And to the mass public it is a difference. that was my point. And yes the Nook is "cooler" ![]() |

I imagine that if the situation were reversed - that Kindle always had the LCD and B&N came out with the keyboard version, many people's opinions on this would be COMPLETELY different. B&N would probably be derided in reviews and on forums as almost antiquated. But since the Kindle came out first and got the large market share and updates the rest of itself fast (Pearl screen, etc.), people got used to the old keyboard and joystick thing and started wanting to defend it. I'm not saying that's what the posters in this thread are thinking or doing. That's just the general impression I get on these forums watching many Kindle owners defend the keyboard. |

My take is that the keyboard and LCD panel should both disappear. They're needless gimmicks.

What would the replacement input device be? Just me, but I prefer a touch screen for inputting data (and swiping for page change) and the e-ink for reading. Current setup works quite well IMHO. Don't really want a real keyboard nor pressing buttons for changing pages. |

That's actually pretty close to being available for many things. Droids and other smart phones have quite good voice search and other voice input to tell the software what you want done. Maybe we'll be saying "page" pretty soon to turn the page on our e-readers.
