Right click the kindle-fonts-3.9.N-k3.zip file. Select 7-Zip -> Add to kindle-fonts-3.9.N-k3.zip.7z
Right click the new kindle-fonts-3.9.N-k3.zip.7z file. Select 7-Zip -> Open Archive What does 7-Zip show as the CRC for that file? It should be C789E054 and be 17142642 bytes unpacked. |

NiLuJe, I know this is a lot to ask, and if you're not comfortable with it, I'll understand, but if you could email me the font files that I will need for the k3w (install, uninstall, and whatever other files I might need for the fonts themselves, etc, ...) separately I would appreciate it. You've done an amazing job here, and I was so hoping to enjoy different fonts: ripped_66@yahoo.com

You tried downloading the file again? The copy you've got is corrupted.

@BryanW: If you've moved the exact same file to different computers, and not tried to re-download it each time, that probably means the issue comes from when you downloaded it in the first place.
Because, yeah, the file you got is corrupt, and the files attached here are not, so something went wrong on your end somewhere along the way ![]() Like Tiersten said, if it was the same file each time, I'd blame it on faulty memory or a seriously compromised OS on the first box, but if you redownloaded the file each time, and all your computers are on the same network, that points more towards a network issue. Other than that, I can't really say, other than it shouldn't happen with a sane system/OS/network ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-24-2010 at 10:41 AM. |

@Achiever: Maybe because it's completely off topic?...

You're welcome to work on the ideas you've listed yourself. Nobody is paid to do any work on the Kindle except Amazon themselves. Curiosity and for personal usage is generally how modifications like this are created and a large part of it is if something doesn't exist then you step up and take on the work yourself.

NiLuJe, thanks again for the awesome hacks.
I think your Font hack uninstaller script may not be working properly. I had installed version 3.8, and attempted to uninstall before upgrading to 3.9. The uninstall update ran without error, but after the reboot, the same custom fonts were in use. I later read your first post more carefully, and it sounds like the uninstall wasn't necessary for the upgrade, but just in case anyone wants to uninstall... |

@mubertmumphrey: Yeah, no need to uninstall for upgrades. As for the uninstall, er, that's weird. Would it be possible to PM me your logs to check, because I'm pretty sure the uninstall is okay. What might not be is the shutdown of the hack before entering the update runlevel, so I'll check than on my end too.
EDIT: Nope, nothing wrong AFAICT. I'd really like to take a look at your logs (;dumpMessages) to see what happened ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-24-2010 at 08:38 PM. |

When I first upgraded to the 3.8N font Hack, I had the same behavior, the uninstall of the previous (3.4N) font Hack was unsuccessful. Nevertheless when I installed the 3.8N for the 2ki I had a successful update (so I didn't reported it at that time). And, I 'd love to report you the ;dumpMessages but, I'm dumb, I don't know where I shall begin. Anyway, so far so good, Hacks are working good and I have more books than I can read... PS: I keep an "Uninstall" folder @K2i so I don't have to mess with hacks. So, every time I hack my Kindle, I save the uninstall_xxx.bin on it, that's the way I keep them safe for a future uninstall. @jglerner: In your case, that's most likely normal, the first few versions weren't stopped properly/started too early to be uninstalled without a full Kindle restart
![]() ![]() And I'll say this again: You don't have to uninstall the hacks when doing an upgrade, the install script handles everything (removing what needs to be removed, updating what needs to be updated, and keeping your custom content intact). And if you want/need to uninstall them, you can use the uninstall from the latest version. (In fact, I'd go so far as to say *always* use the uninstall from the latest version, in order to make sure you get all the latest bug fixes). Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-24-2010 at 10:13 PM. |

Ok, I just ran the 3.9N uninstaller and it worked fine. I'm not sure what happened with the 3.8N uninstaller, though at the time I did run it twice to eliminate human error and it failed both times. I guess it's all moot now anyway.

Thank you for all these work!
i am a newbie here! I really need help. I jailbreaked my kindle-3G (US). Then I installed usbnetwork 0.13N hack. But I don't know how to toggle it ON/OFF. All i want to do is using my kindle's 3G connection on-the-go with my laptop. I couldn't find any "installed menu options" for usbnetwork hack, please help me out. |

NiLuJe...you are the Balm. My sincere appreciation for the jailbreak and the screensaver hacks as well as the documentation and support here on this thread. As a kindle 3 reader newbie, I can't tell you how much Amazon's screensaver were bothering me. The fonts might in future but for now I can deal with what is there. Just wanted to express my gratitude.
