re: dropping prices
The Sony Style store near me temporarily dropped the prices of the readers during the Xmas 2008 shopping season. That's when I bougt my PRS-505. ![]() -Jeff |

Not an official Sony price drop, that would be against all Sony stands for, LOL. But occasionally I did see Best Buy and other retailers temporarily drop prices or include some accessories without an extra charge. But I wouldn't expect that to happen until Black Friday in the US (the day after Thanksgiving day which officially starts the Xmas shopping season in the USA).

Hm, I pre-ordered last Sunday so I could use my $25 coupon before it expired and they said the 650 would be in stock this week. Tomorrow is Friday. *fingers crossed*

My 650 was delivered yesterday (from SonyStyle). I will repeat what others have said; it's a nice upgrade to my 505 (even if it wasn't broken.)
It has more contrast and sharper text, it's lighter and faster. It looks like a quality piece. A couple of family members have Nooks, and I think they are quite bulky. (Room for all those antennas, I guess.) Also, it uses the same charger as my Droid2 and my wife's Blackberry. Fewer dongles to carry on trips. Now, if my case would only show up. Having broken my last two 505's I'm feeling a little nervous (as well as clumsy!) |

Got a 350 in Best Buy last night
I went to Best Buy last night to return my prs-900 and sitting on the shelf was one prs-350 and about 6 prs-300's. The 650 did not have a price on it and there were no signs on the display about it..I just took it to the register and bought it. I wonder if I bought the one they were supposed to put up as their display model?
Anyway, they ALSO had Kindle 3's on display.. This was the Best Buy in Emeryville, CA. I didn't really think I'd like the 350 as I am waiting on the 950, but honestly the 350 is much nicer to read on than the Kindle 3 or the Nook I have. It's making me really rethink how much I value internet access vs. small easy to hold/comfortable reader. I love the Kindle 3's functionality, no real complaints even about the browser, but it's very unbalanced feeling in my hands, tough to hold one handed. I also think the font on the Sony is much easier to read than the Kindle font...FWIW One negative about the 350 so far is that it takes a LONG time to open books...even if I've already opened that book. By long I mean 15-20 seconds for a 900 page book. The Kindle 3 opens them instantly. Page turns on the K3 are slightly faster as well (but not enough to make a diff to me). The 350 wins in the touch screen UI though!.. ![]() Last edited by Towerblock; 09-24-2010 at 02:47 PM. Reason: no reason |

Aaaand...they're in. Gardens has 5 red and 5 black with a bunch of accessories.
Now the question is, do I want black/black, black/red, or red/red...or any combination thereof? |

I even tried to test it by switching between all the Wheel of Time books and the Way of Kings. Every time I close and open it, even put the reader to standby and power back on...whatever it is, I never lose more than 3 seconds to load it back up. What book are you experiencing the issue with? It could have something to do with graphics if there are a lot of illustrations. |

Have you found the 350 to be sluggish compared to the Kindle 3? (I believe you have a K3, right?)... |

I've got a K2, no K3 yet. Don't even think I really want one at this point. Always thought the Kindles had the fastest turns (especially when I used to compare them to the nooks) The 350 is maybe a split second faster than a K2. So, I'd imagine it'd be on par with the K3. I think it's pretty snappy though. The other night I was reading and fell into old habits from previous generation readers. I was reading and hit the page forward button when I was about two lines from the bottom of the page and it flashed before I could read the two lines. I think I'll be going with a Black/Red. |
