@suecsi: Did you switch the fonts *before* launching the font hack install process (ie. like described on the wiki), or *after* (ie. like described on the first post here)?

EDIT: Scratch that, you already answered that question, ^^. (After). Yeah, that's why the autoreboot feature (or a framework restart via ssh) is still the preferred way to restart your Kindle after switching fonts .

![]() I have some details though: Here is a page that has a font (Nafees Nastaleeq) and its VOLT project files: http://www.crulp.org/software/locali...Nastaleeq.html Samples on how it looks like: http://patriot.net/~abdali/urdumac/nastaleeq10.jpg ![]() A second font (Tahreer) and its VOLT project files: http://www.crulp.org/software/locali...reerNaskh.html Samples on how it looks like: http://www.dailyaaj.com.pk/ Thanks! |

I had no idea there was a Kindle jailbreak until I saw it on Engadget. Very nice!

The one thing that I was hoping to find when reading here is that there would be a hack to allow the wi-fi K3 to make an ad hoc connection. I can't tether it to my phone because it only supplies an ad hoc connection and the K3 requires infrastructure mode. |

![]() I'm assuming that it's possible to have the original K3 screensavers as it is possible to apply the ScreenSaver Hack so the original .gifs will be saved in the Backup folder. So, just for fun, one can have the original screensavers of K3 on their K2? I, particularly hate the black band around all Screensavers on original K2s, so if someone can send the "original K3" screensaver .gifs I would be delighted in receiving it, via PM or email. @NiLuge, way to go! You're famous! Thanks for the outstanding job.

@csaket: You really should just try it, I'm not sure I can be of much help with only a vague sense of how it's supposed to be rendered

.@jglerner: Yes, of course . If you don't have a K3 yourself, you'll have to find someone with one to get them though .

.Although it's possible I screwed it up, I actually followed the "this" instructions and, using TedSan's Georgia 2 font and the python executable, generated my own updated .tgz file of fonts (which I then unpacked). Copied the 12 resulting .ttf files to my Kindle's linkfont folder (overwriting the existing ones, which I had backed up first), dropped in a reboot blank file, and crossed my fingers. Odd results, as you described in your first post. Couldn't get to the settings page. Books opened initially in the new font, but then froze -- and then others wouldn't open at all -- and then archived books disappeared. So, forced to do a hard restart (slider over for about 15 secs), reattach my Kindle to my PC, and restore the original 12 .ttf files. All is well again, but I'm afraid someone more competent than me will have to figure out how to get a Georgia2 font compatible and working with the K3. Now trying out the Fontin K3 font you posted, which is not bad at all! Thanks again NuliJe! |

@rogerinnyc: Unless you both did something weird, that's the second time someone has troubles *after* a full restart with tedsan's fonts on a K3... (daffy4u had troubles with tedsan's Fontin packages, with both the framework alt font and the hack).

So, er, can't really say, especially given that it's a modded font, so there's no way to get it from another source. (Unless you re-mod it yourself from a clean Georgia font...). Because for Fontin, using the original font (or my own unhinted TTF conversions) worked... Unless someone else got Georgia working on a K3? (I didn't test it, I have a severe aversion to full Serif fonts... )

So, I dont think it has anything to do with the Hacks, but something with the K3 firmware itself. I did a hard restart (held the slider for quite a few seconds) and the problem was fixed. |

Update time! Yay! (Fairly minor on the SS front, relatively minor for the Fonts, and a bit more meatier in USBNet

).And I tweaked the first post a bit. ScreenSavers: * Use a dynamically linked sort binary (saves a bit of space in the packages). No user-visible change. * Moved the pidfiles to a dedicated directory. No user-visible change. => No need to update. Fonts: * Added an optional font config file, where the condensed font is replaced by the default Caecilia. Enabled via the "nocondensed" trigger file. * Update the CJK.ttf font. (More glyphs, most of these chinese) * The install script now properly updates default custom fonts. * Moved pid & lockfiles to a dedicated directory, and the config files to another. => Update if you rely on CJK rendering, or would like to try the nocondensed config. * USBNetwork: * New binaries for everything. (dynamically linked, gcc 4.4.3, armv6j, arm1136jf-s, vfp) [the busybox binary has the wget applet compiled in]. * SFTP support. (server launched on demand by dropbear). (On a sidenote: x-compiling OpenSSL: fun times! xD) * SSH over WiFi via a config option. (OFF by default because it's a huge security risk with our default dropbear binary [no root password]).
