I have a motivation problem. A big one. To put it in words - I feel lazy. Day after day. And the clock is ticking. The exam's coming. And I don't *want* to touch the books. Funny part - when I start, I get so wrapped up in it, that I forget why I didn't want to do it. But there are often hours between "I'll start 2 minutes" and "I just started". |

Nah. No need to clean it. Just get a cooler ready to receive the food. When the truck pulls into the driveway, do a quick unload of the viable food into the cooler. Let them install new frig, and take away the old frig --- with mold and aliens intact!

Ever feel like taking someone out and beating the daylights out of them? My daughter has a leg injury, exercise induced compartment syndrome, and it is pretty serious. Serious enough that her future ability to walk normally is in jeapordy. The doctor wrote a letter to my daughter's coaches, telling them of the seriousness of the situation and that she cannot work out, and only minimal walking, if she is symptom free.
Daughter tells head coach she can still do upper body weightlifting and he tells her no, they are responsible for her and she might get hurt. Then TWO days later this same SOB coach tells her to walk to the track and walk four laps and come back in. The rest of the situation is like a negotiation. "I can't", "You go out there for marching band, 3 laps". "I used to walk out there, but not I drive to the field for practice. I can't" "Two laps" "I can't" "One lap". Daughter felt bullied into walking out to the track, walking the one lap, then walking back to the gym. She was limping and wanting to stop before she got the lap halfway done. Now, if a coach is given a doctor's note, restricting an athlete's activities, then said coach cannot have the student do practice until another note from the doctor releases the athlete. This isn't a suggestion, it is a RULE. Which the coach just broke. Daughter wants to handle it for now, but I told her I get next crack, and I am not stopping until the he is disciplined for this. The rules are Principal, Superintendent, school board, in that order. I WILL get satisfaction for this. He cannot get away with endangering my daughter's health because he's a jerk. The problem is, there isn't an obvious injury, so they don't seem to believe she is injured. Compartment syndrome means the fascia (sheathing) around muscles is cutting off circulation to the muscles because it doesn't stretch and the muscles are injured and swollen inside the fascia. This causes muscle damage inside the fascia. If enough pressure is produced inside the fascia compartment then it can burst, causing permanent damage. Not something we want. |

mrscoach,
There's some pretty frivolous things that people get a bee in their bonnet over and try suing people - but I have to say that things like this situation with your daughter are such matters that do need to be tackled aggressively. The coach is in a position of responsibility and care, forcing what he did is unacceptable, he isn't the one who has to live with not walking again, he doesn't have to lie in bed at night wondering if tomorrow he'll be able to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom without enduring exceptional pain. Paul. |

May as well share a story from my school days - I was (am!) a computer geek and the school had two main focuses, sports (rugby) and academia. Anyhow, one day I'm coming down from the computer room and this huge football player decides he doesn't like me, thumps me in the arm nice and hard then SLAM, headbutts me and splits my eyebrow clean open - all because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and looked like an easy picking (I was).
Needless to say - because there was a very important rugby tournament coming up they (school) did nothing, they needed him on the team because of his bulk/power. Do I feel bitter about it - yep. I still have the scar...22 years on. As a kid you really don't always understand your rights. I feel a bit annoyed too that my parents didn't leverage for more punishment - alas my father worked away from home for 3 months at a time in the mining industry. Paul. |
