Because they're trying to fix what's broken on the K3, not offer improvements.

But since the update sorted my searchfunction, which is important to me since I have about 2000 books( and I really freaked out on that one: even phoned Amazon from overseas), I'm satisfied with the update. ![]() |

Noobish question, but why is this a preview? Is it a beta? How long does it usually take to become official?

Yes, it's a beta. For the 3.0.1 update it lasted about a week before they started pushing it out over the air.

Signal strength on WiFi is MUCH different/stronger - It feels like WiFI connection was somehow improved with v3.0.2 for me.

Well, tried it outside today and it seems to have fixed the problem.
That is really so strange. I guess it makes sense, because I could read outside with 3.00, but upgrading to 3.01 caused the problem. But well, as I said, seems so strange that a software update can change performance outdoors. And yeah, also seems to fix my problems with the WiFi. Usually I'd have to restart it at least once, sometimes 3 or 4 times to actually connect to WiFi. It would always detect it, just not connect. Hmmm, well, now that I try it, it suddenly disconnects whenever I try to do anything. Meh, as I have a laptop and PSP (both of which connect no problem) it's not a big deal, I have enough internet related devices for the internet. As long as I can get my books from Amazon via WiFi I don't care about anything else. |

Page refreshes go to black for a milisecond or five longer, and then instead of going right to a crisp font, the font is corrupt-looking or blurry for just a milisecond. Everybody seemed to be cheering about 3.02 fixing problems, but it just made my flawless experience worse! I've been searching for how to revert to 3.01 for about an hour now until I found you post here. I found a fix! (I guess you could call it a fix, at least its back to its snappy page turns for the 2 minutes I tested just now) Factory Reset. Its still listed as 3.02, but page turns are as snappy as I remember in 3.00 and 3.01. |

FWIW - I was considering returning/replacing my K3 due to the fact that I had just discovered that I was having the slow page turns in bright sun problem - so I figured I'd try the 3.0.2 f/w update and it actually helped with that (to my surprise).
Other than that fix, I haven't noticed much of a difference (I frankly didn't seem to have any other problems though) - I did have a few crashes/restarts with the original f/w and also with 3.0.1, but so far with 3.0.2 I've had no crashes or restarts. ![]() |

When I recieved my K3 it had firmware 3.0.0. before I even registered it I updated to 3.0.1. Then as soon as I knew about 3.0.2 preview I went to it. But I have to say that I have not had a crash. And I only noticed a slow down once and that was after I had downloaded my library for Amazon and also copied other books from my computer collection. The slow down lasted maybe 5 mins. The only restarts I have done are with the updates and using kindle collection manager to setup my collections.

I'll wait until it's pushed out before I update. Still having the ocasional re-boot on 3.0.1 but it only happens less than once a week now which is an improvement on 3.0 as I was getting about 3 once a week. Now its only 1 about every 10 days. It's not really a problem for me. I dont have any other problems like slow page turns, or problems with web browsing.

I too will wait for the official release. I've had little problems, mostly from web browsing issues. If they update the browser to fix that problem where you cannot enter text in a login field, that'll be great. If they added support for another window, I'll be overjoyed.

Still no word on a "cover" browser instead of the dull title list?
