Oh because you say so right? What do you know about atheism? Are you really an atheist or do you just wear the badge cause it feels good. You know I like folks who really stick up for what they believe in even if its different to me. Then I can really go to work. If you're just playing around... well you got a few more years of laughs ahead...

Evolution is a fact, it is verifiable. It is the method by which it occurs that is an idea, though a robust one which explains and predicts the wealth of evidence available. This is why I tend to use the long form "The Theory of evolution by natural selection" to be clear, it is not evolution that is the theory though the word theory takes on a different meaning when used in the scientific sense.

Well after just insulting me the whole time and debating to score points, now you're feeling superior about yourself. Can't you see through this nonsense. You actually haven't engaged with my points, and I think its maybe cause you're a little scared at the changes it could bring to your life. Its ok. Be scared. God is scary. But also wonderful.

Its a good idea, but they still can't demonstrate how it got started or "designed" hint hint. One thing I can't stand however is these arrogant evolutionists who think they have to fight off religion. They're missing the point. Evolution combined with atheism makes for a nasty combination.

Why?

It doesn't require designing, that is the thrust of natural selection. Tiny changes, huge periods of time, environmental pressures, no designer is required.

I don't think there is anything arrogant in pointing out that science appears to contradict religious belief. I thought you didn't mind be challenged or offended?

Oh look, an ad hominem attack.

Atheism is lack of belief in any gods. I do not believe in any gods. Therefore I am an atheist. Really.

Abiogenesis and evolution are two separate things, but evolution itself disproves the biblical creation myth.

I'm sorry reality sounds nasty to you.

Please don't simply say "don't give me a link" again. There are plenty of references there for you to follow up. It would be pointless (and illegal) to copy the text of all those books into this thread.

If you genuinely believe that atheism does not have a history that extends further back than Christianity then you are taking a contrary position to the commentators and historians referenced in that page.

Yeah but you don't know the history of the atheist movement. It just sounds good to you.

Ok, I'll check it out. Thanks for the link. Funny I thought the word atheism only came about in the 16th century.

Yes but it needs to be demonstrated how it works, without God. I mean how do we go from bits of clay to Gorillas. No ones ever succeeded in showing how the process begins.

Yes, the term "atheism" is that recent, but the concepts go way back.

That's completely ridiculous. It's like telling somebody who does not believe in leprechauns that he does not know the history of lack of belief in leprechauns, and it just sounds good to him.

1. Logical fallacy: god of the gaps / appeal to ignorance.

2. Even if some supernatural agent is involved, there is zero evidence connecting it to the specific god you believe in.

Should I recap?
