Very enjoyable collection of short stories...but the last one is my fav...."The Worst Sound"...

Just finished one of the "included in the price" downloads - "Classified Christmas", a novel from the great library of Mills and Boon, and just started "Cutting the Stone" by Abraham Verghese

I'm reading "Killing Rain" by Barry Eisler on my Sony, the fourth in his John Rain series. Anyone who enjoys the Reacher series would enjoy these books. I actually like them better, a lot more culture is in the Rain series.

I can't spell what I've just read, but it was about massive crabs, by William Meikle..

Didn't mind it at all... Read right through it.

I thought it was going to give me nightmares, because crabs reminds me of spiders... But spiders aren't that big!

Read (finally) "They Don't Plummet Out of The Sky Anymore, by our very own M.D Blake - and a good read it was after I'd sorted out that Bliss was a girl's name as well as a state of mind!

Now reading Three Men on The Bummel - perhaps not as good as the " .... In a Boat" - though Zelda's work makes it a more interesting read, anyway;

It is 1997. The British government now runs island prison colonies to take dangerous offenders from its overcrowded mainland jails.

Among all these colonies, Sert, 25 miles off the north Cornish coast, has the worst reputation. There are no warders. Satellite technology is used to keep the convicts under watch. New arrivals are dumped by helicopter and must learn to survive as best they can.

Not a 'usual' genre for me, and it's early days - but it's very promising start ...

I liked it a lot. I made both of my sisters read it, too, just so I could discuss it with someone.

It's an excellent read!

Out of curiosity, Geoff: is "jails" the usual way for spelling "gaols" in British print these days? Or is this a US-printed book?

(I was recently given a dead-tree copy of "The Traveller" by John Twelve Hawks; the cover was printed in Australia, and said "Traveller", but the body of the book was printed in the US, and read "Traveler" throughout. Then why bother with the token gesture of the cover?)

(Oh, and since we're talking about what we're reading, I'll edit this to toss in a comment: interesting concepts behind the story, but I personally found the book almost unreadable.)

"jail" is how I've always read and spelt it.
