.....Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said: "one CAN'T believe impossible things."
....."I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

.....At a dinner party one evening, Shaw sat next to a pompous young bore who proved to be a mine of uninteresting information. After suffering his neighbor’s interminable monologue throughout the meal, Shaw observed, "You know, between the two of us we know all there is to know." His interlocutor was fascinated. "How is that?" he asked. "Well," replied Shaw, "you seem to know everything except that you’re a bore. And I know that!"
..........— George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950), Irish playwright, is quoted from The Little, Brown Book Of Anecdotes (1985), ed. by Clifton Fadiman.

.....Be angry, but sin not. Let not the sun go down upon your anger.
..........The Essays or Counsels, Civil and Moral by Francis Bacon (1601), "Of Anger." Bacon is making a reference here to Ephesians 4:26-27: "Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil." I've always considered the phrase let not the sun go down upon your anger to be perhaps the best one line piece of advice ever for a successful marriage.

The yeti and I were given that piece of advice twice on our wedding day (we had a point in the reception were we asked all the guests to line up and give us a piece of advice). We've mostly kept to it, too. It has made for some very late nights at times, but better that than waking up still angry.

Don't do it unless you're prepared to achieve Stitchawl's results! Of course, sometimes that's a good thing!

We were given the same advice, and it seems to have worked well for the past 37 years! Not that we haven't failed to follow it a few times, but it's wonderful advice, IMO.
