K3 and Free Books
Hello,

I've just received my K3, and the product is amazing, espacially when compared to my sister's Bookeen Opus screen.

But i'm a bit desappointed by the fact that the "FREE" kindle books are charge at 2.3$ on my account (Belgium) by the amazon US website. The UK website do not permit me to buy something.

Do you have any solution to solve this problem? Is it due to the belgian taxes or something like that?

It has nothing to do with taxes, but it's the cost for getting those books through Whispernet that Amazon charges for all the not US_UK Kindle-users.

not completely true. For me (Germany) many of the free books are free at all. Some of them are charged but not all.

Fellow German here - originally from Berlin, but now living in Hong Kong.
When you are registered your Kindle in the Asia/Pacific region amazon charges you US$ 2.- for all the 'free' books

When you go to Amazon.com--Kindle---Kindlebooks and search for prices ' low to high', it gives you the books. That is: if you log in with your Amazonaccount. At the left upperside of the page it says you're country is Europe.
There are public domain books that are free for the US but costs 2,30 $ via Whispernet for Europe. But just now there're also books priced 0.00 $ for Europe. I ordered five of them, just in case, and didn't pay a cent. I did complain about the costs to Amazon this week and there being no freebies for Europe and I've got the feeling I was not the only one and they listened?

Using amazon.com's RSS feed reader instructions, you can search for all free kindle ebooks; sadly there's no equivalent that I can find for amazon.co.uk - I'll keep looking. Would be very useful being able to be notified by RSS for freebies!

Side loading books is the best way to get free books.


As a bonus I get better battery life by keeping my wifi off too.
