Firmware Update Kindle Collection Manager for Windows

Now, I have a different problem. I download the version 2.5 firmware (the file Update_kindle2_gw_2.5.4.bin), and went through the firmware update process as instructed. However, when I check the version number on my Kindle, it is still showing 2.3!!!

Would it be possible to select multiple books from the left column and drag and drop into the right column.

When adding a new series to a collection it may be 10 - 20 books. At the moment I have to drag them 1 at a time. Adding a shift or control, copy/paste would speed things up.

I have been using it for almost a week and am very happy to recommend it to others.

I am just started to use it and I too would love to select more than one book at a time.

I must be using it wrong - I have some folders in my documents folder. each folder has some books of either .mobi or .azw, and some pdfs. when i clear the kindle (which, on first run on KCM had many duplicates) and drag the folders across, the collections look great.

after a reboot (tried both methods), all of the collections are there, but most of the books are in the root - some are in the correct places though. the missing books (missing from collections only) can be any format, although i notice that the samples from Amazon are all missing from their collection.

is there a simple reason, or am i doing something wrong?

also, does the app change anything that cant be changed back if I dont think its worked?

Thanks for taking care of the duplicate books issue. The duplicate book message came up on my DX, I made my choice and the DX opened in KCM. I shudder when I think of how long it would have taken me to find 18 duplicate books (calibre thought only 4 duplicates existed) out of 2500+.

Some features for my KCM wish list:

-select more than one book at a time to copy into a collection. i.e. author XYZ has 3 series, each of which has at least 3 books. I currently copy author XYZ folder 4 times (series plus author), changing the name each time and eliminating the books not desired in that folder. unfortunately this doesn't work if I'm trying to add several books in one kindle folder to a pre-existing collection. then it's individual file drag & drop.

-duplication of a title multiple times in a collection folder. I don't know how to explain without a screen shot, but the name of the file that repeats really isn't that file for all the duplicate names.

-ability to sort the kindle file side. I can get a sorted kindle collection side by saving changes, closing the program and then re-opening the program.

But, even in the current beta stage, KCM takes kindle's collection feature and makes it usable. One of the few software components that Sony does correctly is their "tag" feature and KCM takes kindle a step closer to a "tag" system with each update.

I am having very similar problems. Some of my collections show up and some don't and some of those that show up do not show that they contain books in the Collections Manager even though the books are there on the Kindle. I am using the K3. Also having the problem of duplicate titles showing in a collection, and not all the titles in a collection showing.

I was just earlier thinking how good it would be to be able to edit collections on the PC, quick Google, and found this - very impressed.

Does this works on windows vista 32bit? The brief instruction only said windows7 with 64bit....

Ok, upgraded to 0.4.1 and still have some issues...
- Multiple names for a book still appear (Freakonomics is the king, with over 20 appearances).
- DRM icons for DRM-stripped books.
- Filenames instead of title for some books.

On the suggestions side:
- As it's being said, multiple selections is a must.
- So is auto-scrolling and the ability to keep collections closed when adding items.
- It would be good to have a visual cue when a book is already part of some collection, such as changing color, etc.
- A floating tooltip could show which collections the book is part of.

Adrian, I tried to send this to you via email yesterday but I'm not sure it went through. Here is my experience with 0.4.1. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.

I removed 0.4.0 and then loaded v0.4.1. I opened KCM up and moved a few books into existing collections. Closed KCM and ejected on the computer, but the Kindle still showed the USB Drive Mode screen. Double checked that it had ejected, and on the computer there was no Kindle drive showing. Finally unplugged the USB cable and the Kindle comes back to life. I look in the collections and cannot see any of the books that I had just moved in. Decided to reboot the Kindle…..after rebooting all collections are gone. The books are still there, but no collections at all. I reconnected to USB and opened KCM again, and it also shows no collections now.

This tool works great and makes life easier. The only thing I really would like to see changed is to be able to select more than one book at a time to move into a collection.

Well, I finally figured out the problem! I installed the screen saver hack long time ago and had just forgotten about it. I have to uninstall it before updating the firmware. I will try again later when I have the time.
