When should we start seeing 350/650 in stores - Page 11

All local sony style stores in the lower mainland of BC, Canada now have the 350's in stock as of today. No stock for the 650's are in their computers for the warehouse so no idea when 650's will show up.

I just hope they don't delay it too much for the rest of Europe, I would want to get the PRS-650 by the end of this month if possible.

After ordering and cancelling Kindle 3, I have taken the plunge and ordered the 650 (black) from Waterstone's today. The release date seems to be 17th September here in the UK but when I will receive the reader I do not know; apparently, I will get an email after the dispatch.

I was hoping to order a cover for it at the same time but they only have a black one and I don't really fancy it that much. I did like the creamy white/dark red cover shown in the video from Berlin but I can't find it anywhere. Maybe they will bring more covers out once the reader is released.

Good question. Here in SFL, the left hand doesn't quite know what the right is doing. And making phone calls is a fruitless experience at best. I've called just about every store from Palm Beach to Monroe County (The Keys) and no one has any clue about them.

The best answers I've gotten so far:

Palm Beach:
"Yes. We have two in stock. Which are you looking for?"
"Preferably the 650, but do you have the 350?"
"Yes."
"Yes, as in I can go buy it today? Or yes as in they're available to look at?"
"Uhm. Hold on. Jeff do we have any in stock? No we don't sorry."
"Any idea when we'll be able to buy them?"
"Uhm. No. Sorry."

Boca:
"We have them on display, there are open orders. We don't know when they'll be on the shelf."

Dolphin Mall @ Fort Lauderdale:
"They're on clearance for $159. We have a couple left."

A week later, they still have no clue what's going on with them...But, at least I can buy a new Sony TV for $1599, and get a free PAIR of 3D glasses!!!!! That's a $599 value. They also offer new netbooks, which are great for bringing with you and reading on.

Sigh.

It looks like I'd be able to get a K3 for less money and faster than the "available immediately" 650/350. Sony...don't tempt me

Yep, dealing with sales staff at electronics retail centers here in north Texas is rather frustrating too! The new Kindles shipped in time to arrive on August 26, yet no stores have them in stock. The new iPod touch 4G was announced September 1, but Best Buy has yet to display them, although they have them in a locked cage next to a cashier where no one will see them or check them out.

I'm glad I ordered my 350 from Sony right after they were announced. However, I chose to wait until stores starting carrying the covers to pick one. It looks like I will have a naked 350 for many weeks to come before any of the stores in my area start carrying the Readers and accessories. And the Sony Store is in Dallas about 30 miles away through horrible traffic, so I will wait until Best Buy and Frys start carrying accessories. Yep, over 6.5 million idiots living in my metro area, but only one Sony Store and it is in the far east of the metro!

That's the thing that kept me from pre-ordering at first. I don't do too well with just looking at pretty pictures. I wanted to see the different colors and options in person. I really wanted a red 505 when they first came out, and now that the 650 is in red, i want to see one to believe it before I buy it.

And I didn't really want to order a reader online without being able to get a case in the same shipment. I've had too many near misses with my nook and my original 505/700 without a cover...so I know better

What I really want to see is the new lighted cover. The last one I had was a lightwedge, and that was rather...awkward.

Beginning of brief rant -- Lets examine the record here. The press release a couple of weeks ago said available "immediately." Shortly thereafter, the website said Sept 16. Some store employees were clueless, while others said Sept 16 (probably only because they were astute enough to read the website). Then, mysteriously, the 350 went live on the website last week, and some people already have them. As of Sept 15, the 650 is still listed on the website as pre-order (in the US), and stores still have no clue as to whether either or both will be available in stores. In short - utter chaos. It is annoying to customers to be left in the dark this way. From a business standpoint is just plain dumb. Some customers who originally wanted the 650 will opt to buy the cheaper 350 since they can order it now. Others, as indicated in this thread, will give up entirely and go buy a Kindle. It would have been a very bright move on Sony's part to have someone post some info here, so that the customers who were the most interested would know where things stood. Of course, by that reasoning, it would also be smart to clue in the managers in their stores so that they could provide meaningful answers. Obviously, no one in Sony management has this sort of basic business knowledge. -- End of brief rant.

I don't have a "local" Sony Style - the nearest are all over the border in Ontario. I was briefly tempted to make a trip, but I figured it would cost me an extra $30US for a 650, plus gas. And it doesn't sound like they have the 650 anyway!

I considered ordering from sonystyle.com, but I couldn't find their return policy on items you don't like, vs. broken/warranty problems.

Don't make the trip up to Canada. The 650's aren't showing up in the computers as being in the warehouse stocking yet.

Thanks! I guess until then I will have to make do with a plastic bag or a knitted cover and use my 505 outside the home.
