Did you try to blow some air in their with one of those compress air cans or a vacuum set up in reverse. Optical drive heads get dusty if you don't use them often. Even if you do use them often.

Speaking of that I had a couple of "failures" on my relatively new (a month or so) 1 TB portable...had to unplug and re-plug and then it worked.....I'm not very comfortable/happy with that.....grrrr....

plugged into my laptop at work at the moment and working correctly...with test it some...

As the wise IT guy once said, there are only two kinds of computer drives: those that have already failed, and those that are about to.

I find it helps to have a positive outlook.

Without getting into detail, why would you carry around 1 TB of hard drive? Externals have an inordinately high failure rate; to entrust that much data to one is kind of asking for trouble, isn't it?

Note to self....

When uploading a config file from one firewall to another, be sure to remove the line in the file that resets the password the encrypted string of characters.

Thanks Deb. Everything is, right now, mostly ok. If nothing else this is the ammo we need to be allowed to hire some help

Cause it was cheap and I needed to quickly copy the data from both a laptop and desktop.

Oh and I never trust any drive or computer -- I've been in this business way to long to trust them. I'm not happy without three copies of any important data and on three different types of media if possible.

GRRRRRRRR!!!!! so for anyone who remembers that little tumble I took off of my deck last spring after my knee surgery? had an MRI on Thursday. I've been walking around with a fractured femur this whole time....

Actually, I don't remember that, but I DO know that that knee has given you trouble for far longer than it should have. So *this* is why, huh. Couldn't they have found that before?? (Yes, I know -- that's what your post meant, too!)

I did!!!!!!!! and he kept x-raying the knee!!!!!!! I kept telling him it was my thigh that was killing me, my physical therapist kept writing reports, and could actually feel (as could I) *something* in there!!!!

surgeons!!!! they like to slice and dice, they don't want to solve other problems. I see my physical therapist tomorrow who has always been about 5 steps ahead of ANY of the docs since I have known her. I'll see what she has to say besides "stay off of it". which is what he said. this is going on month 5!!!!
