It is Amazon's mistake for using UPS in Canada given UPS' extremely poor service history in Canada

They also had full knowledge about UPS's problem when the first delivery attempt were made and decided to stay put and do nothing. Alas, they gave me the wrong number of UPS to solve the problem.

I do appreciate that, but what would you like Amazon to have done? Once the package leaves Amazon it's the responsibility of the courier to deliver it. Did UPS not leave your friend a card saying that they had attempted delivery? That's what a courier normally does.

That was of course an error on their part.

I would like to thank cl516 for giving the right number of UPS in Canada. Something Amazon was not able to give me. I just spent 20 dollars to reach again to the conclusion that UPS is a terrible courier.

In my first attempt, a really attentive operator understood my problem. She said UPS could contact my friend directly to solve the problem. I was giving to her my friend's phone number when my cellphone connection died. Next time I called another operator said to me that I could not give any phone number to them and I could not do anything (only the sender - Amazon - or the receiver - my friend - could). That is a joke.

Here I have to disagree with you. The seller's responsibility does not end when the product leaves its store by mail. In my opinion, he is also responsible for the delivery procedure even if he decides to outsource it to a specific courier.

I hate seeing reviews for any product on Amazon that don't pertain to the functionality or quality of the actual product. It drives me nuts. Unfortunately, it also seems to the norm anymore.

It sucks that you had a bad experience trying to get something shipped, I sympathize, but how is posting a product review even relevant? You didn't even get the product to evaluate! So complain to Amazon CS and UPS all you want, but those complaints don't belong in a product review.

It's like seeing negative book reviews because people just want to bitch about Amazon's pricing. I'm sure the authors love that.

There is a thread on here someplace how people want to be stupid and give a 1 star rating for no good reason at all. I think it may have to do with the price.

Sorry, you misunderstand me. What I meant was that Amazon have no control over how and when UPS deliver a package; that is entirely down to UPS. I fully appreciate that you've had an annoying experience - I'd be annoyed too if this had happened to me - but I really think you're blaming the wrong company. Your problems were with UPS, not with Amazon.

But Amazon has the option of using UPS to ship to Canada or not and Amazon chose to so the issue is Amazon's fault for using UPS. Amazon should have used a different carrier to ship to Canada. So really, this is Amazon's fault.

And how could Amazon possibly have known in advance that UPS would have encountered problems delivering to this particular person? Really, Jon, I don't think that your argument has much merit.

From reading this thread it sounds like UPS has a history of bad service to Canada. And given that, why would Amazon use them?

So it sounds like you have a choice between using UPS or the USPS for the shipping? Reorder the Kindle and choose the other shipping method. I agree that what happened is annoying. I've had a series of FedEx delivery people here that have pulled similar stunts and as a result I try to avoid FedEx when possible.

But in the end, remember the phrase "Cutting off your nose to spite your face."

If you really want an iPAD or nook over a Kindle that's one thing. But I assume you chose the Kindle for a reason and that reason is probably still valid. So, fix the problem and get your Kindle.

UPS are one of the largest courier companies in the world, so it's not unnatural that Amazon should use them. I'm sure that if you ask about any large company you'll find people who have encountered problems with them. Problems can and do occur with any company; it's unfortunate when it happens, but it doesn't mean that the company has a systematic problem with poor service. If they did, they probably wouldn't be the successful company that they are.

Amazon are extremely "customer service oriented" and I really can't see them continuing to use any supplier with whom they'd had a history of problems.

Really, Jon, you do seem to put the worst possible interpretation upon everything.

I've had a problem with UPS that almost got me to get out a lawyer and sue the hell out of them.

UPS has or had what they call home drivers. These are people they hire to deliver packages on their way home from work. And at the time, we lived in an apartment. We were not yet married and we ordered a wedding candle for the wedding. Well, the home driver delivered it by leaving it in the PUBLIC entry way of the building. We were home and the driver either rang the wrong bell or did not ring the bell.

We thought we would be without the candle for the wedding. Well, I called the person who made the candle and explained what happened and she made a new candle for us and had it Fedexed out to us very fast. She was wonderful and now her business uses Fedex instead of UPS.

UPS almost got sued if things had not worked out.

But why would UPS say that the person getting the delivery refused the order? Why would UPS ignore the note attached to the broken buzzer?
