It's only happened twice to me in 6 days. They were both straight after each other and it has been problem free since then. I'm not bothered at all because I know amazon are working on an update to fix the problems. Plus even with those 2 incidents it's a lot more stable than my PRS-300 which used to freeze and shut down all the time.

I have just reported my freezes and reboots to Kindle CS UK, I decided to at least log the issue.

I told them I am happy to wait for an update but if that failed to fix my issues I would want a brand new replacement unit even if it was outside the 30 days. Will see what they say........ |

Part of me is now hoping that I do not get mine until the new firmware is out (assuming that fixes the problem), so that I can immediately update the firmware rather than become annoyed with it if it starts freezing on me - once cheated upon, it can take a long time to rebuild the trust! That said, I'm still intrigued enough with the K3 to keep my present order live, rather than cancel and wait for a fix to be released. |

I do too, which is why I'm wondering whether it would be safest get a replacement under warranty now, when it's unlikely to be a refurb (because they aren't likely to have any, even if they would do that at this stage), or return it and order a new one to start my 30 day return guarantee again. |

Most other places I've bought things from with something like a 30-day return policy, the 30 days start counting and you can only replace things within the 30 day window. After 31 days from delivery, you's SOL. |

![]() That's what I mean by feeling safer just returning this straight out for a refund, and then buying a new one. If I get a replacement, it'll be under the rules of the warranty. My 30 day return window will pass by, and if the replacement is buggy, I could conceivably end up with a refurb. If anyone knows for sure otherwise, I would welcome their advice.

I had one lockup while using the browser, scared me witless until I reset it. Other than that it's been really steady and trouble free.

The only way to guarantee one would be to return this one and then order another but you'll be at the back of the queue and Kindleless for possibly a few weeks. I've no idea how willing Amazon CS would be to you insisting on a new Kindle if they're replacing it. |

				Possible refurbishing even now

			Quote:

It is possible that even now replacements may be refurbished ones. That is especially true for those with the spontaneous reset problem like me. They could have merely replaced one or more parts to inhibit spontaneous resets in other returns and then send them to owners of the latest returns. If I get a refurbished one like that, I would be more than happy about it. It is then possible I could use it in Church even if they did have an RFI problem. I'll know more about that when I take my replacement K3 due Wednesday to Church this Sunday. Last edited by sirmaru; 09-06-2010 at 09:45 PM. |

There's no economical way to fix a unit with some glitchy, crashy issue that could be anywhere on the mainboard. A defective cellular radio is the only bit of electronics that can be swapped out. It's worth sending a bad board to the lab to see if there's a defect in the design or manufacturing process, but that board's already blown it's chance to make a customer happy.

Any physical deformities are obvious to diagnose, and easily turned around for replacement. Something like a quasimodoially moulded case, or a keyboard twisted into an eldritch Dvorak curse would get refurbished quickly. Last edited by pen_sq; 09-07-2010 at 12:08 AM. |
