That list exactly matches my Calibre, with the exception that I don't have Plato's Republic.

So, that means there's been 104 + The Republic.

The list matches mine exact, except that I also have 14 duplicates (3 of them with identical authors and titles, which only matters to the NookStudy program, as it won't let you add both copies to the same "course", as a result).

105 total titles, plus the duplicates, which is the same number as nookstudy tells me that I have. In addition, I have 125 other free books I've added to my library at B&N.

Oops. Off-by-one error. I swear I can do math, really.

In any case, just to confirm, 105 total unique B&N Classics offered so far this year through all means, +11 duplicate files from the NookStudy overlaps since that set has different product numbers from the regularly offered Classics, so they count as a separate "purchase" from the usual versions.

Oh, and the versions of Pride and Prejudice, Dracula, and Little Women that you get for free when you sign up for a B&N account and download/install the Nook apps to begin with are DRM-free, for some unknown reason (I'm guessing because people would be really annoyed to have to give their CC info just for signing up without intending to "buy" anything).

So if anyone's been wanting to try the B&N Classics on another reader and your DRM-stripping-fu is not of the strong, then at least you can transfer and convert those 3 with ease.

I just wonder if the original 125 classics that were on my Kobo reader are still locked on the hidden partition. Mine had the Canadian free books on it (clearly marked on the box), but the Borders software, so only 5 in the software. Sadly, trying to sync the little bugger resulted in my PC locking up (repeatedly, over several days, as I tried and tried to get it to work), eventually resulting in all the classics disappearing (at which point I did a factory reset on it and switched to Calibre, as a final sync worked, but resulted in only 5 books installed. Not nook/B&N related, of course, but I wonder how that set of books looked in comparison.

Of course, there are so many good sources of bare classics, it's not as though I'm starved for reading materials, even without the 105 on the nook.

If you want the stuff which originally came on the Kobo back, check out the Kobo forum's sticky thread on how to replace a possibly corrupted sqlite db with a fresh copy.

However, it does require wiping all the other stuff you may have put on your reader since then and reloading afterwards, and since you had problems before, it may not be worth your time.

As for which editions Kobo used, I'm pretty sure they're the exact same as the ones found via their special Free eBooks listing at the top of the site. Whenever I've seen a promo picture of the Kobo displaying the cover of a "classic" while in sleep mode, it's been the same image as the covers shown in the Free eBooks section.

Thanks. I may give it a try (after backing up and on a day I have time to spend on it).

or, I may just download the book in the free ebook site and keep them in Calibre instead...

Bummer. I can do without the freebies, but if I wanted 'em, I guess I could have someone I trust load stuff on my account in the U.S., without using a proxy? I guess that's another reason for me to buy from Amazon.

B&N are very annoying in this regard. But yes, for US persons outside the US who wanted to purchase books, the procedure they advise on their boards for, say, military personnel stationed overseas is to get a friend/relative to do their buying for them. All they'd have to do is log into the account and 1-click; you can freely download stuff from the website while outside the US (though maybe not to an iPad app).

Needless to say, I'd change my account passwords before and after this every time, just in case.
