Well I ended up ordering off ebay!

I paid £205 including fast Fedex shipping which I dont think is all that bad. I chose a seller who has about 50 of them and has a lot of feedback from other people he has shipped to internationally.

I am really excited!

Bear in mind that you'll have to pay about another £40-50 when it arrives. If it's being shipped by FedEx, they'll pay all the taxes for you, then send you the bill, with a £10 or so "processing fee" for doing so.

I just called B&H and the person I spoke to has no idea what the Sony Reader is. When I told him of the price he said it's probably a mistake and should be adjusted once it's in. But before that he said it's not released yet. This doesn't bode well for B&H having a clue.

I've asked Adorama and they've told me that It will be available in 4-6 weeks..
I don't know if it's really the date that they expect the reader to be available, or if he has only said a date.

By the way. Searching in froogle, I've fonud several sites selling the reader with a price over the 279 dollars. So we can expect to find it at this price in other places. The only shame is that it seems to be out of stock in almost every shop.

I've asked them the same question a couple of days ago and here is the answer :
"Dear customer:
We are expecting this item to be in stock in 1 week.
Thank you" . I hope my answer is right ;-)

I ordered from Adorama on Saturday Oct 20 - after having seen the possiblility in this thread - and it was shipped on Tuesday 23. According to UPS the parcel is in Sweden close to me now.

It could not have been faster.

Hmmm, has anyone else found that once they updated to version 2.0 of the connect software, they're unable to access the account (claimes no internet connection even though the system is clearly connected to the internet)? I don't know if this is a real effect or a coincidence that going back to version 1.1 'seemed' to correct?
Thanks,
Doug

I am sorry when I got the parcel, it only contained an aditional order, not the reader.itself. That was not specified in Adoramas message to me.

Big disappintment!!

No need to panic!

This is something fairly common. By contract official resellers can't display a price below the MSRP. ($299 for the Sony)
So if they actually want to sell the 505 for less the customer has to request it.

Sony probably noticed the lower price and asked them to solve it.

I thought it was the other way around, BKeeper -- that the MSRP was what the manufacturer suggested as the price. And also what the manufacturer sells it for themselves, going no lower than that to prevent undercutting their retail partners ....
