For any people near Montreal's South Shore ; I called the Brossard branch of Sony Store and asked about the new models ; they don't have them, nor do they have them in their system to actually make an order.

I guess I'll tempt sonystyle.ca to pass my order, tho I would have rather picked it up in store... No clue on Future Shop and Best Buy's side either as to when they might get the new eReaders!

Did not have my 505 with me at the Sony Store earlier but the displays on the 350 and 650 seemed to be as good as the 505 and comparable better than the 300/600.

BTW, these devices are not on display. I asked about three clerks before one told me they did have the new machines and promptly dug each one out and let me look at them.

The 350 seems smaller and closer to actually being pocket size.

I never considered getting either the 300 or 600 but, these new models may be worth a thought.

Thanks for the reply. I preordered a 350. It must be lightweight, my HTC Imagio weighs over 5 ounces, nearly the same as the Sony 350.

I imagine that they will. I quite like the blue colour, makes me second guess my desire for the red model.

@Astra, thanks for the info re: words per line on the daily being the same as the 650 but would I not get more lines on the page on the daily or turned to landscape two pages?
Tx.

Yes, you would get more lines per pages on 950 vs. 650. If it is important for you then 950 is a better choice.
I personally dislike landscape because I don't like to hold my reader this way. Also if you make it two pages/columns, I am not sure how much text you can get per line because one column is probably more narrow than the width of 5".

...was able to stop by the Sony Style located in the Annapolis Mall yesterday to check out the 350 and 650.

Like others, I didn't have my 505 with me so it's hard to say how much the new screens make a difference. However, I did spend a good amount of time playing with the new interface and found it to be very well executed. I was initially worried about the page turning with the touchscreen but found that is was easier to use than the 505. Page turns didn't seem to be noticeably faster, but certainly fast enough.

The built-in dictionaries are a very nice addition. I must admit that I do miss having one like I did on my Cybook.

Right now I'm trying to decide whether the 5-inch 350 is the way I'd want to go. That 350 is so nice and light when compared to the 505.....155g vs. 250g.

I guess the good news is that I have to wait until the 17th before I can buy one.

Very dissapointing...

How sony won't or can't issue a 9.7" reader, they really can't undercut amazon it seems in price.

A real pity because a 9.7 reader without the silly restrictions from amazon is needed urgently.

Sony has been (again) very underwhelming with their approach here. This company used to be innovative, to actually bring something to the table instead of following trends and coming up with a half decent product based on the financial bottom line only, and on the clout that sony has.

I guess pretty much only apple and apple left in the tec world with some guts and some vision. Sadly they are not into e-ink, yet.

"Thoughtful navigation and button placement

Designed for ease of use, the Reader Touch Edition™ provides intuitive navigation and button placement, including right and left-hand side page advance buttons."
From the pictures, I only see one set of buttons for advancing the page which don't look convenient.

Of those that have seen the new 650 in-store, can you confirm there are no other buttons for turning the pages? If not, how short of a stroke does it take to turn the pages on the touchscreen? Can a person hold it one-handed and turn the pages without difficulty?

If you look at the row of buttons at the bottom of the reader, the two buttons on the left are back and forward buttons. Those are the only buttons (ignoring power switch) on the reader. As far as a finger stroke, I've been reading my 600 in bed with one hand, using my thumb to advance pages for the past year. In other words, it takes a very short stroke

The Pocketbook 900 series is coming out shortly, with a 9" screen and no restrictions.

Thanks Marcy. Will it have pearl screen? Is it not vapourware? Will it have some decent built quality and aesthetics? Will the company eventually fold as irex did?

Lots of questions, lol...

No Pearl screen for the first batch; second might have.
No vapourware; already shown at IFA Berlin. PocketBook isn't know for vapourware.

Don't think that PocketBook will follow iRex but who know's.
