If you do not strip DRM or do not know how to strip DRM or even that you can strip DRM, the Kindle locks you into Amazon for eBooks with DRM. Sony does not lock you into Sony and if you have access to library eBooks in ePub, you can borrow what you want. You cannot do this with a Kindle.
jswinden, most of your arguments for the K3 are based on stripping DRM/converting. Do you have any significant arguments for the K3 that do not involve DRM stripping/converting? And is there any shop other then Amazon where you can get DRMed eBooks? |

A minor feature of the touchscreen Sonys, at least the 700 and 600 [EDIT: Just read the 350 manual and it has this feature too], is

Personally it would go for the 650.
No vendor lock in, DRM/ePub support (important for public libraries). Looks better, Pearl screen too and touchscreen. Just to name a few reasons. |

Conversion: Sony to Amazon DRM?

I used to use a Sony PRS-900 and now use a Kindle LG WiFi 3. It would be nice to be able to retrieve those old Sony eBooks on the Kindle. |

You cannot convert Sony DRM ePub books to DRM AZW eBooks, you would have to strip the DRM first, then convert to mobi, which would not contain DRM, but could be read on your Kindle.

First off, I purchased a Sony PRS-350 yesterday. So how many in this lynch mob have actually purchased one of the newest Sonys? I thought so, so back off!
![]() Secondly I've owned the 505, 300, 600, and 900, the latter two have touchscreens. Granted my hands are big and my fingers are fat and my circulation is probably not the best, but my experience with the 600 and 900 was that using my fingers on their touchscreens was NOT something that worked consistently. I used the 900 extensively for 6 months and rarely got it to react to my finger touch. If I turned my finger over and used my fingernail, then the screen would respond. And even using a stylus, the screens often were slow to respond and the selected text would often change after I lifted the stylus from the screen. As I've stated plenty of times, I am not a brand snob. That means I'm loyal to no company. I choose my readers based on what I hope with be the characteristics that make it work best for me. And I've made a few wrong choices over the years. Some of you are just as bad as the Applephiles in that you cannot listen to ANY criticism of Sony products. Well I criticize any product that has flaws no matter who manufactured it. If you don't like that, too bad. Oh, and if you want to call me a troll, do so to my face. I live in southern Arlington, Texas. We will see just how big your mouth is then Mr. Ten Posts. Last edited by jswinden; 09-03-2010 at 11:53 AM. |

Both look like they are great products, but I personally will upgrade my PRS-505 to either the 650 or the 950, as I have found that I would like to have the touchscreen annotation, I like the way Sony readers render PDFs, and I often upload files in rtf to read on my reader, and would really miss that in a Kindle.

Well i've just bought the K3 and if I had the choice I'd still buy the K3 again. However out of the new sony's I'd say the 350 looks the best, maybe because I already have a 300.

Decision made - I think, perhaps
So, I cancelled my order for the Kindle 3 and went to order the PRS650. Got through to the confirm page on the SonyStyle website and got a message that there was a technical error on the site and I should try again later. Took this as a sign from the eReader angel that it should be a K3. So re-ordered the Kindle, with a ship date of the 20th September. Considering re-cancelling and getting a PRS650. I need counselling and medication. I am glad I am not like this in my job.
