I was holding out to get the Pocket Edition but the lack of Wi-Fi is a deal breaker for me. Looks like I'll be moving on over to the K3. Sorry Sony, but you just lost a customer.

I realize Sony are trying to be a premium product but these prices are out of line in today's market.

Do you think Sony will offer any trade-in deals? I know they have in the past, but unsure if this is common practice when they release new Readers.

Adjusting for VAT, Waterstones' price is $209 for the 5" reader, so they're selling it at a large markup, just as they did when the 300/600 were introduced.

I expect to see it for less from other outlets, though part of the markup probably comes courtesy of Sony Europe.

What the heck is in the photo in this article?

http://techpinger.com/2010/09/sony-i...oble-and-ipad/

There are page turn buttons on the left bezel in the photo-- that doesn't match the images of any of the new readers.

Edit: Never mind, looks like it is the PRS-500.

That's the original PRS-500.

Impressions from Teleread.
Quote:
The new readers use the Pearl screen, just like the Kindle, and it is remarkable that Sony’s new touch interface does not seem to interfere with the screen’s sharpness or contrast at all. I couldn’t tell the difference between their touch screen and my Kindle 3.
...
Of course, only the Daily Edition has WiFi and 3G, which is a surprise. Phil said that Sony’s surveys showed that most people don’t care about this feature, especially since readers tend to buy more than one book at a time. Given this, they would prefer to browse the bookstore on a PC rather than try to find multiple books through an ereader device.
Their iPhone app should be out by the end of October and the Android app by the end of November. The units will sync with the PC as well.

I may be wrong, but I read new "apps" as apps for apple devices and maybe angdroid devices.

If the Teleread comparison of Sony to the K3 display is true:

http://www.teleread.com/2010/09/01/t...nt/#more-47243

then I am just thrilled!

I love the pocket-size form-factor of the Sony's and did not want to be forced to migrate to the Kindle for a nice Pearl screen.

And yes, I'm willing to pay Sony more money if the device fits my needs.

Personally, I like the red better then the silver.
