What do people do with their old ereaders?
I now have three ereaders, two Sony, a PRS 505 and a PRS 600 Touch, and the new Kindle. I really don't know what to do with the Sony's now.
I kept the 505 as a backup to the Touch, which I bought because it handled PDF's better than the 505. (I read a lot of text only fiction PDF's) but now I have the Kindle I just don't know whether to sell them, or one of them, and if so which one? The 505 has the better screen, but the 600 handles PDF's better. Or just keep them as backups on the grounds that they are not worth much anymore. Or sell them both and buy another Kindle, the 3G, as I got the wifi this time. So far from what I can see, although it may be too early to make that call, the Kindle has taken my converted RTF, PDF's and epubs (I converted them using Calibre) okay, so it looks like reading them on the Kindle will be fine. Decisions, decisions, decsions ![]() |

If it's genuinely spare, sell it on eBay. They fetch good prices - I recently sold a PRS-600 for about $230.

I tried to persuade my hubby to convert to ebooks and have my old Kindle but no go - he will not be persuaded even though he likes the ebook prices! So mine will be sold as I don't need two Kindles. I still have a pocketbook 360 to sell too. May as well get some more gadget money!

I have 2 sony 505 (silver and red) and 1 sony touch. I intend to keep all mine.
I have loads of books for the sonys and am not fussed about converting them for the Kindle. I use them all and load different genres on each one, so they are in fact like a library. When I want Fantasy, Horror and Sci fi I go for my Sony Touch when I want Urban fantasy and all things supernatural I go for my red 505 classics, fiction and more sedate genres go on the silver 505 . This way I get all of my ebooks onto a reader without resorting to using sd cards. I have them lined up next to my bed like books and know which genres are on which reader, and choose accordingly. Works for me. ![]() My Kindle will store just books bought from Amazon, and will sit next to the other readers so I get a full choice of ebooks all loaded and ready to go. I am a really bad hoarder of books and buy way more than I will ever read, but its nice to know they are all there when wanted and my poor bookshelves get a rest. |

Half of me is tempted to keep them both as back ups, and maybe keep the short stories on the 505 and the Touch as a proper back up for what I already have, or do what you suggest. I am a bit of a back up girl, as soon as I saw that the mains lead wasn't a normal mini usb lead I immediately ordered a spare mains lead............but thats me, terrified that I will end up ereaderless. |

That what I'll do with my K1.
![]() I'll also load it with books for her; especially some relatively easy English ones, since using the dictionary is a very nice way to acquire vocabulary and she currently wants to learn to speak English better. |

Right now my K2-US is in a drawer as my back-up and I'm using the K3. I went thru a period earlier this year where a reader broke and I was waiting for the insurance claim to process to replace it and it was murder. I'm reluctant to let it go as long as that memory is fresh.
My Sony is with my son's girlfriend and I don't think I'll be getting it back anytime soon. All our other Kindles and iPADs are getting daily use from family members. |

I decided to keep my K1 in case of disaster, plus I really don't have anyone to pass it off to.

Old eReaders
I purchased a PRS 900 in December, 2009, for $ 400. It is now totally obsolete since the Kindle LG WiFi 3 is in a totally different universe.
I had given my Sony PRS 505 to my granddaughter for her birthday last May. I offered my PRS 900 to my daughter for one of her kids to use or sell on eBay. So far, she told me to just "hold on to it." I unregistered it at the Sony store. I may give it to one of my son's kids for Christmas. Obsolesence in eReaders is really disastrous and costly. LOL. It looks like my new K3 will be obsolete in 12 months maximum. That is now a hidden cost factor which few previously anticipated. |

I paid £250 for my Touch in November last year, if I did sell it on ebay soonish, before a new one comes out, I think I would count myself very lucky to get £100 for it. I won't pay that kind of money again. |
