Hello, another lurker becomes a member!

Hello All,

I am new to joining mobileread but have seen this informative forum crop up time and time again while Googling for info on ebooks and devices. Since I am now the proud owner of a Bookeen Cybook Opus (two days), I thought would do the right thing and make this an honest relationship.

My first ebook reader ever was a Newton MessagePad 120. Since then I have had various Apple MessagePads, later switched to a Palm IIIc and for the last couple of years I have been reading ePubs on my Nokia N800 using FBReader.

But, ever since seeing a friend's Kindle, I have had 'e-ink envy' - until earlier this week, when I saw the Cybook Opus in a buy.com email for eighty bucks, shipped. Good thing I pulled the trigger right then (about 6 am or so), because I believe they sold out within hours.

It's a great, lightweight little reader and comes with a multi-language selection of books (some are demos). While using "Folder View" I discovered it was easy to recover storage space by deleting books in languages I did not read. By drilling down into the various sub-folders, one can see Bookeen has conveniently sorted their pre-loads into language folders. This makes it simple to remove books I will never attempt to read.

I have been using Calibre with the N800 and see that it also supports the Opus. I already have quite a supply of books and free epubs are everywhere, so I'm not so sure about downloading and using Adobe Digital Editions (as Bookeen recommends). Any thoughts?

Welcome. I've not heard of a Cybook Opus. I'm learning so much here.

Welcome to mobileread ....

If the Opus is set up in the same way as the Gen3, you don't need ADE, just download the book to your PC and from there onto the Opus. Calibre is useful for Library management and making conversions.

Pop into the Bookeen forum for tips ....

Good to have your company, Edski. Sounds like you struck gold with a bargain basement deal on a great wee reader. Best wishes. Neil
