Great new features in K3 using Amazon DJV Bibles
I've been studying all the new features of my Kindle 3 (some may have existed for others in K1 and K2). These all apply to use of the DVJ Bibles by Osnova and sold by Amazon for less than $ 5.00 each.
1. Popular Highlights of Others. When within the Bible, just hit Menu to see this option. Then one can access Bible discoveries by others and add them to one's own Highlights. 2. Change Primary dictionary to Easton Bible Dictionary. Go to Home, then Settings then then Menu again. One will be given an option to change one's Dictionary for Bible use and then change it back again when done. 3. Osnova's Direct Verse Jump. Just type the abrevieation of the Book (Genesis = Ge; Matthews = Mt) then a period and then the Chapter then a period and then the Verses. Press the 5 Way and you are there immediately. If one doesn't know the abbreviation, just hit Menu, then Go To and select Contents. The Kindle 3 LG has revolutionarized Bible Study. I used to use the NowBible for Church and my PC for reading all books. Now, I'll only be using the K3 for both tasks exclusively. |

Thank you, sirmaru, for your kind words. I have just submitted updated KJV editions to Amazon (I presume this is what you have). If you want a copy of the update please send me a pm or email to osnova AT gmail.com. One of the improvements: you can enter "toc" and double click "find" to get to the Table of Contents. Don't forget that you can press right or left with the 5 Way joystick to jump between books and large sections.
Jabby, formatting works well even if you change the font size because it is not page-based. If you select extremely large font, then the formatting looks strange but it is to be expected. I have a DX myself, and all my editions have been tested on it. So, no fear. So far, I have released the following translations: KJV, ASV, WEB, NET (sold by copyright owner), Douay-Rheims (Catholic translation of Vulgata). There is also a free Chinese Union Version (on this forum). Finally, I have just submitted the Spanish Reina Valera 1909 Bible. I have sent letters to Zondervan about NIV and to Bishops Conference about NAB. They are taking their time to consider my proposal. I am also thinking whether people would prefer seeing the book abbreviations before each verse. I find it confusing but maybe somebody would like it. Somebody suggested that 5 way right-left navigation should jump between chapters (not books as it is now). I am still not sure if this is better. Let me know your thoughts. |

Osnova, this might be an off-the-wall idea, but what about putting a "cheat sheet" of the book abbreviations as a page at the beginning of every book of the bible, then setting the 5-way left-right to jump between books. That way whenever you're reading, you could just press left or right on the 5-way and it would take you directly to an abbreviation guide. To get to the actual 1st page of the book you would only have to click Next Page once, so it's not adding too much inconvenience.

My K3 arrived this morning so I added the KJV to it. I thought I was going to have a problem entering things like 1sa2.12 because when I went to register the K3 a note told me to push the "sym" key to enter numbers and I saw that the upper row of keys did not have the numbers on them (as on my DX). I was hitting the space bar > del > sym > 1 > sa > sym > 1.12 > sym > find. I was thinking that "this could be tedious". That is until I found out that the numbers are on the keyboard they just aren't marked. Now all is well and I am a very happy camper. A job well done! Regards - John |

Great idea

Keep the jump between books so we know which book we are in. Even better would be to insert the book abbreviation before the chapter and verse inside the content as a reminder of our location. Even better would be a standardized abreviation doctrine like: Ma instead of Mt, Ph instead of Php. It would be easier to remember that way. If two books had the same first two letters, then use the first three letters for the second book. |

I've gone through lots of thinking and struggle coming up with the abbreviations. I started with the OSIS (Open Scripture Information Standard), and then had to make them shorter because the gaps were too big. Changing the abbreviations now when there are thousands of DVJ Bibles out there would probably counterproductive.
I'll think about the cheatsheet idea. I'll see how it works. 911jason, I appreciate your ideas. Keep them coming. |
