I just did a test on my K3 and it highlighted the area I wanted it to.... I did it again just to see for sure, I don't know what happened with yours..... though I will say on a highlight it takes more time to do than on a normal book.

highlighting two-column PDFs

There also seems to be a problem with highlighting two-column PDFs.

Watch the 7th video ('Kindle 3 PDF') on the Kindle 3 Videos – Daytime page, at ireaderreview.com .
The highlighting-test starts at 02:41 .

At 03:06 the reviewer (switch11) says:
Quote:
Er, it's still a little iffy with two-column PDFs. It works sometimes, sometimes it does what it just did. Er it, highlightes [doing disections ??] instead of highlighting just a few lines.
BTW, thanks for the 4 videos.

Erinath, Thanks so much for the videos. Is it possible for you to show how the collections work on the K3? Thanks a bunch.

Edit: Does it work like the Sony Collection?

Edit: Found it on the website. Thought it was something new with the 3.0 software.

Very nice videos. Shows off the K3 quite nicely.

I do have one question. Is it possible to have smaller margins with the K3?

Thanks Erinath for those videos- a video is worth 1000 (or more) words! It's really much better to actually see things like screen contrast, page refresh, PDF, web on the K3, rather than reading a review describing it.

The K3 seems like a great value!

Great videos Erinath, I got mine in the mail but its charging at the moment.

The tip about the alt key short cut for typing numbers in is useful. Have you heard of any other good tips?

Also how does the email address work? free something?

Last, how are you loading the PDFs onto the kindle?

thanks

Thanks for all the positive comments. Sorry if I haven't replied to everyone, it's completely by accident.

It might be possible, but if so I haven't found a way yet.

No other tips, sorry. Details about the e-mail address you can send things to are available within the Amazon help pages.

I've tried 2 different ways of loading PDFs onto my Kindle. The first time was via the free conversion service Amazon offer, the second time was just by connecting my Kindle to my pc via the USB cable & dragging & dropping the file. I actually slightly prefer the PDF which was dragged & dropped to the one Amazon converted for me, though was very impressed it only took Amazon 2 minutes from me sending off the request to receiving the converted file on my Kindle.

I haven't been reading pages with the magnifying pane on in order to be able to answer that. It does seem to mainly be when the text is too small to be readable though. I'm sure someone else can answer that for you though.

If you click the menu button within any document you can choose to view all your notes & marks. It will then show you an overview of what you have highlighted & where & gives you the option to click on it to be taken to that passage/note. If you are on the home page, pressing the menu button allows you to search.

I tried converting some ePubs to mobi via calibre and set the Left and Right margins to zero, but it had no effect. You can adjust the margins by changing the Words per Line setting between Fewest, Fewer, and Default. Default is the setting you saw in her video and equates to appx. 1/4 inch L&R margins. Fewer is appx. 1/2 inch L&R margin, and Fewest is appx. 3/4 inch L&R margins. These settings are ridiculous of course. Amazon should have set Fewest to no more than 1/4 inch L&R margins and the other two to even smaller margins.

I'm going to explore mobi a bit better and see in I can find a way to decrease the margins in converted books.

Hi Jack.
Sounds great. Still waiting for delivery. After seeing all the videos I was confused, as I thought/expected the margins to be 0, utilizing the whole screen. So please keep us posted

Good luck and I do hope you can find a way to get lesser margins. I was hoping the new firmware for the k3 would have sorted out the overly large margins. But maybe not. What is the thing with having such big margins anyway? It just doesn't look so nice (IMHO).

From the K3 User's Guide, Chapter 3, pp. 64-65 (bold underlining added for emphasis) (http://kindle.s3.amazonaws.com/Kindl...de_English.pdf):

Quote:
Adjusting the Number of Words per Line
You can change the number of words per line in the book, periodical, or converted personal document you are currently reading to suit your reading preference.

Adjusting the number of words increases or decreases the size of the margins. You may find you read faster with fewer words per line. Experiment to find what works best for you.

To pick the number of words per line you prefer, follow these steps:

1.Press the Text key located on the bottom row of the keyboard.
2.Use the 5-way to underline the Words per Line options.
3.Choose the option you want to use (you see the change immediately).
4.Press the 5-way or the Text key to confirm your choice.

Note: You cannot change the number of words per line in PDF files or in Web Browser.
Haven't received my K3 yet, so I can't comment on how well it works.
