I would warmly recommend it as a good, solid introduction to the viking age. It's well written by an author with a solid scholarly background, yet not dry and with lots of illustrations and info boxes. Its only failing (in my eyes) is that the chapter on religion and mythology is very short - the focus here is on the viking expansion in Europa and on politics, and it covers this from all angles. And best of all, it's a new book and the information is up to date. It would be a great book to own as reference book as well.

Perhaps I should add it's a p-book

Right now, reading the introduction manual to Final Cut Pro 7. A small p-book, it was (almost) the only printed document there was in the box. The other manuals are of course in PDF or html version, and so far I have failed to convert them to a format readable on my Opus.

I've just started "King Solomon's Mines" by H. Rider Haggard. So far not what I expected, but good! Also picked up at the library today "The Devil and Sherlock Holmes" by David Grann, and "The Story of Stuff" by Annie Leonard.

I rather like the idea of a book being "real rage turning".

Thanks for the smile, hardgainer.

I read that book when I was a teenager and loved it! I think I downloaded it some time ago but haven't re-read it (yet). There was also a wonderful movie with Stewart Granger and Deborah Kerr, but I think it had a very different tone.

I haven't read or even purchased it, but Free Press has just published a new book by Alex Bellos that has to have the best title for a book about math in the history of the English language.

Spoiler:
Here's Looking at Euclid: A Surprising Excursion Through the Astonishing World of Math

Somehow I found myself the owner of the first three novels in Patrick O'Brian's epic 20 volume series about the exploits of Captain Jack Aubrey and Doctor Stephen Maturin. About 1/2 way through "Master and Commander". Thank goodness for Kindle dictionary, but it's been a tough read. I'm actually enjoying the story, but I think I'm going to have to learn a lot more about 18th century seafaring before i can really enjoy and understand these books.

Thanks for the *King Solomon's Mines* reminder, Lilac. Like Florence, I loved it as a youngster. I guess it's Public Domain now. Right? Best wishes. Neil

Start reading the Perry Rhodan Series 2-3 months ago.
Now at 386 out of 2558.
I'm planning a short stop at 400 to get room for other books.
