Unfortunately, the distribution network is way too complex to apply that kind of strict fairness. That would take a single queue and these shipments are being staged at facilities all over the place. So there maybe a queue at each distribution center but I think a lot depends on what's going on in your region and how many orders that center is processing. There were people who ordered the same day as I did and got it yesterday but they were in a different part of the country. I'm supposed to get mine today. There are also some people who are not getting them on time. I wouldn't assume that just because there may be a delay at one center that there will be delays at all centers. Amazon also has no way of controlling the packages once they're handed off to UPS or FedEx. If there's a slowdown going through one of their facilities, that has jack all to do with Amazon.

I ordered mine on July 30 and it was delivered today. Since I'm in Canada I didn't expect to receive it today but I'm glad I did.

Ordered Wifi with expedited shipping at 29th at 1pm to our home in East Berkshire, UK.
Moved to dispatching soon at 10 today. Still waiting for expected delivery date.

Frustrating as I'm away all of next week (which is why I paid extra for delivery).

Ordered mine on July 29. Received wi-fi only Kindle today, August 27. One day delivery. Ordered cover same day. It has shipped, but will not arrive until September 1. I have given 3 Kindles as gifts, but this is the first for me. I've been content up until now with Kindle for iPhone. Couldn't resist the low price so ordered one for myself.

Ordered a Wifi-only version August 2 and mine will arrive the 30th via Ontrac. I'm in SoCal by the way. It shipped Friday and will arrive Monday, so I guess I technically got one-day shipping when I paid for two-day.

I agree that it might not be possible but they shouldnt use the terms first come first servered on the website when ordering.

Ordered 3rd August (US time), received shipping and tracking number today. ETA 3rd September (I live on the other side of the world and given the delivery time of the power adapter earlier this month I'm damn happy with the time).

With all the iPad hype in the media, I don't think Amazon realized just how many people still want a good, dedicated reader!

I don't know, it seems like they must have had enough Kindles made to fill most orders (if people who ordered them after the Aug 1st deadline are getting them shipped, and they apparently are).

They just can't seem to fill them in the order they were placed. That seems to me more of a logistical problem on Amazon's end. You'd think they'd have been better prepared having experience with past launches.

Anyway, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if it ships when it was supposed to or a few days later. But it is a little annoying when a company says something and doesn't live up to it.

Hmm.

I ordered on 1 August, about eight hours before the supposed first-group deadline. The case has arrived, but the device is still "shipping soon-We'll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date."

Since, you are a lot closer to the factory than I am in Pennsylvania, you really should get it first

(Although I presume they are routing through the US or UK, right?)

Second night in a row. Coming in from supper, I now have a status of "Shipped". Yay! The Amazon.com site predicts delivery on 30 August. That will be wonderful.

I got mine today in Germany. Modern Logistics just amazes me. It left the US not even 2 days ago and now it magically transferred to Germany. Insane...

Anyway. It's my very first e-reader and I'm just amazed! The screen really looks like paper. That's not just marketing talk! I'm so super happy. It's much better than I expected.

I spent the past week looking carefully for books I always wanted to read that are free and found around 150 so far. That's probably just the tip of the iceberg. The money I saved on those books even if I just read half of them more than makes up for the price of my Kindle.

I got the unlighted cover (I never used a booklight so why would I suddenly have to on an artificial book?) and it's really nice. I understand why it has this price now, too. The leather and finish feels really nice and justifies the price entirely.

Just started reading The Picture Of Dorian Gray...I forgot I wasn't reading a book so fast I can't believe it. Plus, the dictionary function really helps when reading older and more sophisticated books if you're not native. Before I always had to check words on the Internet or in translators...now I can do it in a matter of seconds.

Sorry about the fanboy talk but I have not been that happy about a cheap product like this in the recent past.

Mine is in transit as well, in a mysterious way it left Phoenix two hours before arriving. I guess someone needs to adjust their scanner. Anyhoo, expected arrival Sept 1, but I'm so wet now that if it doesn't come here Monday the UPS guy is in danger of being ravaged if I have to wait until Wednesday.
