Not entirely true. On friday afternoons I'm free. If it were to come on monday, I'd have to wait, most likely, till friday before I could collect the package... I hate it when they say it'll come on friday and it doesn't...

Well, my Kindle has now been changed to "Shipping Soon". Ordered second batch, 4th August (3rd in the US I think).

After checking my tracking # again, UPS is now showing a firm delivery date of monday.

So now I'm back to frustrated. I had planned to do some reading on it this weekend, and now I won't be able to until the middle or end of the week.

Furthermore, amazon's boilerplate response to my email kind of pissed me off.

"The availability and shipping times listed on our website are estimates, not guarantees. Unfortunately, unexpected fluctuations in our inventory occasionally happen, and that can add time to our original availability estimate. I know it's frustrating when that happens, and I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for your interest in Kindle."

1) I chose two-day shipping and received "GROUND" shipping.

2) This is why I'm missing the release-date delivery.

3) The wording on the home page of amazon.com was VERY specific. "Order now and choose two-day shipping to ENSURE release-date delivery" (emphasis mine on "Ensure"). The very definition of "ensure" means "guarantee"

If amazon's warehouse had used UPS 2nd day as promised, I would have my kindle tomorrow, ON release day. The fact that they decided to save on shipping and ship "ground" when I chose "2nd day" shipping, is why I'm missing the "release-date" delivery by three days. What's more frustrating, however, is "passing the buck".

I was under the impression that Jeff Bezos' vision for Amazon.com was to make it "The world's most customer-centric" retailer, no? Then why the boilerplate email disavowing any responsibility for this, albeit small, error on amazon's part? In a manner of speaking, they've now exacerbated my frustrations.

Mine says GROUND, too - but it's practically coming same day. It got it's first Departure Scan at 2:01 this morning and was "Out for Delivery" at 4:49 am.

Yep. Mine, too. And I spent the extra $3.99 for next-day delivery (prime member). It doesn't matter to me that it's traveling the last leg of it's journey via ground transport. That's not unusual for my orders from them. Their Nevada DC is 4 hours from my home. Often something is shipped via air to Nevada first. What would bother me is if they missed the August 27th release date delivery that they promised, as they have with Matt. I don't care if it comes on the back of a llama as long as they make it in time.

Which they're not going to achieve with mine I'm still "shipping soon" with a delivery date of today, but a call to CS indicates that I won't see it until Monday. They've refunded my $4, and I also complained about expediting my case that's going to sit empty. They couldn't refund my $4 for that - it was delivered as promised, of course - but they did extend my Prime membership by a month for my "inconvenience"

I'm sorry. It's like your mom telling you that Santa can't make it and he'll be there some time round New Years. Normally I wouldn't get terribly annoyed if I didn't get a package on the exact day promised. (I've only had that happen once or twice in the years I've been shopping with Amazon. They're usually so very reliable.) But this isn't a normal package. I don't know why we're all so amped up. I already have a Kindle, after all. But I'm as excited to get the new one as I was for the first one. I'd be so disappointed if it didn't make it here today.

Mine has been Shipping Soon all day, I assume that it is leaving the West Coast of USA, so no surprise.
However, I went to my Manage Your Kindle page and discovered that it still wasn't registered there. That is a little more surprising.

Mine has been registered on my Manage Your Kindle page for a couple of weeks and I have already "assigned" books to it, but still no charge to my cc or indication of shipping. Bummer. Ordered Aug 1st.
