Personally I can't understand why someone would buy one of the new readers. They pretty much abandoned the last two versions. Despite the abundance of people here complaining publicly about a lack of firmware updates, and many people trying to get a reasonable answer from Sony support, they still didn't fix glaring problems with the original firmware. They won't get any more money from me until they show that they are going to look after their existing customers better. |

By the way, glare issue is not something you can fix by a firmware update. Last edited by yts06mgr; 08-26-2010 at 10:54 AM.

Thanks for a very helpful explanation. Just what did he mean by "glaring problems"?

The typical two glaring problems people have complained about forever is the fact that Sony's ADE implementation doesn't allow a choice of full or left justification and there is no way to turn off the page numbers in the right margin.

You know guys, there are "pocket books" in the wilds, with frequent firmware updates. Guess what, they aren't even remotely as stable as Sony's. So there is no need in "firmware updates" unless one has to fix something, right? Now I could accept enabling justification in epub's as a fix, but other than that, what else could you complain about? |

Sony's reader seem to be the only ones where you can't have epub and pdf library books on the device at the same time. Sony acknowledges it on their help page but doesn't offer a solution.

Zero problems here with my PRS-505. And since I stay far away from pdf on 6 inch or smaller devices I'm perfectly happy to give the new Sony's a try. I'm just looking for a new epub reader with fast screen turns, no glare and a Pearl screen. Oh and of course full justification. If Sony don't step up next month I may well be looking at ordering a Kindle 3, but since that'll mean converting my epubs to mobi I'd really rather not go down that route. |

I don't know about the rest, but the PRS-505 is the device with the most complaints in this area and I have never heard of a single time that one 505 had to be sent back because the user couldn't resolve what they perceived as their device being bricked.
