CATERPILLARS ATE MY ROCKET!!!!

I can't believe it! On my windowsill! There were two of them on the new plant, and they ATE ALL THE LEAVES (all four of them)!. And one on the old plant. But I can't bring myself to throw them overboard. I tried to put them all on the old plant, but I'm not sure they will stay there, there isn't much to eat as I already ate all the leaves. And what if they get to the tarragon? It's so damn hard to grow, and it's still tiny!

Maybe... there is no photo of the caterpillar (and I can't take one now, lighting too bad). They are bright green but I don't see any diamond shape on their back.

I thought I would keep them, but then I realized that they need to stuff themselves with enough food to last the winter. They would just eat through all my salad, then starve to death. So I will release them into the "wild" this week-end.

Argh, that happened to us last summer. We had the conservatory doors open, and a bunch of cabbage white butterflies sneaked in. This year we'll be vigilant!

Oddly enough, they didn't do much damage to the basil, but they *loved* the rocket.

The very first asparagus spear appeared last weekend. This means spring is nearly here.

I *love* fresh asparagus.

The first plum blossom has appeared, too.

Our blackberries are blowing up nicely, but they do need more sun to ripen. We've got a lot of red ones, who are huge, but I prefer black ones that are huge! (they're not called blackberries for nothing!)

Next year I'm using chemicals to keep the bugs off and metallic streamers to keep the birds away. And if I find a dead blackbird on the road, I may pick it up and hang it as a warning to others.

One of my co-corkers suggested I do something similar with a caterpillar

If you let the little guy eat enough, he'll hang himself up (as a cocoon!)
