The Bad News:
Yesterday morning my Kindle 2 fell off the desk and the screen froze. As in sub-zero reboot doesn't help solid ice-age class mired-in-the-mud up to the windshield ain't going nowhere deep freeze. As I write this, the last page I read is still displayed on the screen.

The Good News:
I called Amazon this morning at 1 AM and they said that was considered covered under normal usage. My replacement K2 should arrive tomorrow.

Gotta' love that Amazon Customer Service!

Except from the screen, i would expect the reader to resist falling off a desk. Amazon's response is not "amazing", it's perfectly normal, the kindle shouldn't have broke.

Electronics device are excepted to support a minimum choc IMHO. Devices falling off a desk happens every now and then. that's why it's "normal usage".

True that! My Mini once fell on the ground (it fell from its cover, whoops...). And no breakage! You can't say the cover saved it, because I was still holding the cover in my hand while the Mini was on the floor...

I would have thought that this was accidental damage, not normal usage.
According to Amazon's limited one-year warranty that comes with each device ....

All of that is true, but Amazon could easily have just said "nope sorry". Judging by the reaction here it looks like most people expected that, so when a company exceeds your expectations I think they deserve a pat on the back. I'm still not buying a Kindle though
