Reader introduction in Denmark

This 5 inch reader is being introduced in one of the biggest danish supermarket chains this week. If anyone knows the device under different names, please reply and say which. The ad has a reference to a danish publisher, who is selling ebooks. Here are some prices, which I have converted to dollars: Stieg Larsson books 15$ Some danish authors unknown here: 20$ - 39$ |

The image looks to be of the EER-051D e-reader from Paradigm Shift, I think. It is an LCD, not e-ink reader if it is the Paradigm Shift.

999 DEK would be close to a Kindle WiFi. On the other hand you won't find that in Bilka. Are there enough Danish books available digitally to make it viable?

I don't think the reader can compete with a K3 wifi, but I still think it is news that a major chain pushing it.

On the verge of a paradigm shift? What about Peter Höegh? I really like him, even read him in original just to get the right feeling. |

SAXO.com Gyldendal e-bøger Saxo sells at cost price at the moment, to keep the price down. Quote:
Looks like LCD. I highly doubt it will be able to compete with the Kindle on quality, and I would make doubly sure it can handle DRM'd epub (the text is ambiguous).

The e-reader in the picture was developed by a Singapore company called Gajah. The software really isn't very good.

Oh, yes. They claim it's to cover their costs. That they have extra costs is not an unreasonable claim (tiny market, devices v. expensive here, books are expensive in general, too -> few book buyers), but to price them so that they are a worse deal than buying p-books and at the same time trying to convince people to buy them - plus an expensive device... E-books are expensive in Sweden too. Piratförlaget is showing common sense and price new e-books at 100 SEK ( roughly 10 euro), but then the price drops. Sadly, the other publishers aren't showing the same common sense. Luckily, you can get the e-books from the library. I have discovered lots of new authors that way The e-readers available are good. The prices aren't that high compared to prices in other countries, except US and UK. |

An example of a newly published book is "Sumobrødre": hardcover: 199 DKK ~$35 , e-book: 289 DKK ~ $50 (it's not yet out in paperback). Prices are incl. 25% VAT. I think that's one of the worst cases. If they matched the hardcover price, that would be more reasonable. Gyldendal is a publisher BTW (with their own Internet store). A re-seller, saxo.com is selling at cost price because they think e-books are too expensive.
