I don't find it distracting either. Sometimes I do notice a glare when I have my nook light directly on it, but it doesn't bother me. I like it better there than on the actual page.

I thought I wouldn't like the touch screen, but I ended up really loving it. It is easy to use, and it is super fast to navigate through lots of books. I like to search through my books via the cover flow. Because it's rooted, I have tags (or collections) so I can look through certain books instead of rolling through all of my books (once you have a few hundred books, tags are much easier to organize your books). I find it much faster than if I had to use navigation buttons.

Having looked at both the nook and the Kindle (and purchased neither), I find the Kindle's keyboard to be a big distracting waste of space. At least the touch screen is useful.

LOL

No glare problems at all. Love the touchscreen

Why they made it glossy white is beyond me as it may be intrusive to some and adds nothing over a dark matt colour.

But for me, the most annoying thing is the glossy reflective black screen border - it's only about 3mm wide but that is enough to irritate when it catches a light. It was a silly, nonsensical design decision. The reflective touch screen annoys me too but at least that can be covered.

I personally love the look of the white casing. One of the things I don't like about the Kindle 3 wifi is it doesn't come in white. I like the gloss too. Reflective or not, it doesn't bother me. It's all a personal preference.

uh huh. They don't cover that annoying glossy black screen surround though.

Look, from reading some of your other posts I understand that you think it's your life's work to defend the Nook's honour but really, some of us that haven't drunk too much of the Kool aid think that certain aspects of its design really are distracting. And yes, several of them can be somewhat alleviated by buying additional bits and bobs, but not all.

Cost aside, I really don't see what advantage the Nook has over the iPad for the reading I do - the only reason I've avoided getting an iPad is the screen glare and reflections and the Nook case has them in spades.

Here's hoping the K3 designers had more sense.

difference between you and i is you don't see me going on the kindle sub forums making up phony issues and idiotic claims.

Well hopefully your tolling has come full circle and you can move on now.

Good luck with your Kindle and as this what your whole trolling is about anyway.

bye bye Troll

I've had my nook since April and have NEVER noticed any glare or distractions from either the white edge or the touchscreen. I have my touchscreen set at 10 seconds and I rarely notice it's on as I start reading. I LOVE the touchscreen for turning pages.
I personnally do NOT think there is anything bad with the design and would not give up my Nook.

The main problem with the Nook is that it is already a failed device.
Amazon and the Kindle have trashed it.
Kindle is better product and cheaper.

The Nook is just not very good as a book reader, what most people want it for.
Battery life is very poor
Buttons crack all the time
The return and fail rate is alarming.
Even the USB connection is non standard, so you can't charge it from many 3rd party USB power sources.

I own a Nook, I don't own a Kindle, but that's because I like to fool around with the OS.
That won't sell many Nooks.

My prediction, B&N won't be selling Nooks in 6 months.

Battery life is good. As good as the Kindle? No. But 3-4 days is fine. I could use improvement of maybe a day or two.
Button cracking - minority. Kindles have physical issues too
Return rate - what, do you work at B&N?
USB connection - standard micro-B connector, takes standard USB voltage...pretty much the same as the Kindle.

3-4 days = 72-96hrs .... mine lasts about 8hrs or 1/3 day or 1000 page turns with wifi switched off. Not good enough for a long flight or coach trip. I would be happy if it lasted 24hrs.

Try charging it from a USB battery pack or a USB car lighter charger or a random USB mobile phone charger .... see what happens!
Not everyone wants to carry a laptop when travelling around the world.
