Hello

Hi,

I've been lurking for a while as I considered the purchase of a dedicated reader. Now that the time is near I figured I'd go ahead and register.

My first real exposure to ebooks was back when I got a Palm IIIxe, which seems like a long time ago. With every PDA I've owned since I've dabbled with them, but I've found reading on a PDA to be unsatisfying. For me the screen is just to small in most cases. I do read occasionally on my Treo, but I crave the larger screen of a dedicated device. I have no doubt it'll be worth it. I read a lot (400 books so far this year) so figure I'll get a lot of use out of it. I've also been reading on my laptop (lots of Baen stuff).

I'm pretty much set to grab a 505, but figure with Amazon's release so soon that I'll wait until something concrete is known about the Kindle.

I'm sure there will be questions later, but for now I'll just go back to reading threads here & there while I decide what to buy.

Welcome to MobileRead, AnemicOak!

We're all waiting for anything solid on the (as yet mythical) Kindle. Glad you found us.

You must be reading short stories or summaries or something! Already 400 books read this year? That's more than a book a day. That's mind boggling! With that level of usage, I'd say you should be getting every one of the the newest and best reading devices as soon as they appear! Wow... surely you mean 400 pages so far this year?!

Well, as of today 395 to be exact. Some short story anthologies, but I count those as one title. Books from 200-900 pages, most in the 300-400 page range. What can I say, I like to read & pretty much watch no TV and very few movies.

There are plenty of folks out there who read a lot more than that.

EDIT: I just checked my read list. I guess 5 of them were short stories that weren't part of a larger anthology.
