Device: PRS-600 and 2 Kindle 3's - and now a K4 + HTC Desire HD
Slowly but surely, I am losing my sight due in part to Diabetic Retinopathy, my current Reader is the Sony PRS - 600 with 5 font sizes, I rarely use anything but XL or XXL even in landscape mode,

We now have 2 K3's on order,

On sample screens and Kindle for PC, the 8 font sizes are great, but the jump up between the larger sizes could indeed be more gradual, better still a linear increase would be great (though I guess impossible) being able to continuosly increase or decrease size WOW what a thought .... Anyone have influence at Amazon ???

I can't wait to see how well I can read on the K3, Hurry up Amazon !

Interesting!
I just ordered a DXG shortly before reading Capt. Skurvy's post.

I find that most books, almost all paperbacks and even newspapers now have fonts too small for me to read comfortably. And while the Captain's negative comments are valid isn't it also true that eReaders, with adjustable font sizes, are ALL better choices than the actual paper book for those with impaired vision?

I find the iPad fantastic for reading. The ability to enlarge the font or zoom in on pictures is a great help. The only complaint is the difficulty to read in bright sunlight thus the DXG. Also my wife, a non-computer person, has appropriated my iPad for her reading.

My question is this: What eInk device, now available, is equal to or better than the Kindle DXG for reading?

Only the new Kindles currently have the Pearl screen, which gives them a hardware advantage. The Kindle 3 firmware is now competitive with the best alternatives, although PocketBook, for example, provides more customization options. It is also likely that the Kindle DX will get the Kindle 3 firmware improvements (e.g. choice of 3 fonts and full screen mode with no header). If not, it is already possible to hack the device to switch to a different font.

Overall, it is hard to argue against the KDX for reading if you don't mind its size and weight.

Thanks. Weight is no problem. The DX is about 3 ounces lighter than the iPad and I do 99% of my reading sitting down.
