Sorry, it's not Sony's fault that the inferior VHS was chosen over Betamax. And what is wrong with the 500/505? Look at Amazon. They won't even support the old K1 where Sony supports the 500 still. Yeah, the rootkit thing was a mess. But not everyone is perfect. And it is your fault for having data 1+ years old not backed up.

I was the first one to put a boot into Sony for not keeping up with the times (or the competition rather).
I'll happily eat a humble pie and take everything bad I said about Sony if the new models do come up close to Perl screen contrast and no glare. I wouldn't be too fussed with touch screen if that buys me better screen quality. In fact, I'm putting my purchase of a couple of Kindles on hold on the back of this rumour. If they do deliver the goods by the end of the year, I'm back on the Sony bandwagon ![]() |

I tried the PRS-600 and did not buy it for two reasons: the small screen size and the time it took when viewing zoomed pdf (large size pdf).
If Sony gives a new generation e-reader with a faster processor and a better contrast (keeping all the great stuff about the current generation devices, i.e. interface, touch-screen, sd card slot, etc), then it will be a great alternative to the Kindle DX. As for now the promised new SiPix devices (most notably the Asus DR-900) seem to be evaporating... ![]() |

Btw, this last week I spent in Greece and I was able to get 10 days of reading on a single charge on my Sony 600. Not bad at all -- and there was no glare whatsoever on the screen while reading on the beach in direct sunlinght and no fading of the screen either. So many unfounded rumors about the Sony touchscreen devices. Really strange ![]() |

I didn't know there are 3 types of touch screens until now. I thought that one type is Sony Reader's touch screen and another type is what iRex, mobile phones, touch screen tablets, etc are using. Apparently there is a lot more to it ![]() |
