Actually, if you are set properly to be able to strip the DRM from MS Reader or Mobipocket, then either is just as easy to convert.

Why not just go LIT > ePub > Mobi?

But doesn't the OP want to end up at ePub? The question was whether MOBI or LIT would be easier to strip of its DRM on a Mac system.

Kindle for Mac uses a per-book PID scheme similar to the one used in Kindle for PC and Kindle firmware 2.5+.

Unlike the Kindle for PC scheme, no-one's managed to reverse engineer the Kindle for Mac scheme yet.

In short: You can't find the PID for Kindle for Mac.
