Heat indexes up to 110 F today (= 100 F with humidity levels over 70%) ... severe storms with damaging winds later this afternoon.

[KK - if you're out looking at the Perseids tonight and hear screaming overhead, you'll know the storms have wafted me to the west coast! Please feed the kitties their chicken early tonight so they won't think you ordered a bedtime snack for them.]

Not expected to break any records here today because of all the t-storms in the forecast, but I'll bet this Tidewater summer has been one for the record books overall. I don't ever remember a summer this consistently hot and humid.

Me too. We only had 1 little rain this summer. Tim has not needed to cut grass since the first week of July. It is brown and crunchy out there.

The official high for today was 102. It is still 90 out there at 10 PM. It was the hottest official high for the year. This has been a miserable summer. Remind me of this when I am whining about the cold and rain next January.

Thunderstorms. We are in a valley. The acoustics are weird, sometimes....I just heard a roll of thunder that sounded more like a sonic boom...it just kept going and going and fading. I swear it kept going for at least 20 seconds.... kinda scary.

I love rain, and I'm glad to live in a place where you get it aplenty. Better rain than stiflying, humid regular August weather. Still, I'd like not to get a shower every time I'm trying to get a smoke (we smoke in the balcony) or I'm stepping outside the car (umbrella behind me) :P
