Best one for Manga? Sony 600 or Nook? - Page 2

Won't I be able to zoom, how are these formats on these devices? Since you do read Manga, did you happen to read something like Love Hina? I am asking because the text is kinda small in that one...

The K3 will have 4G of memory and a battery that lasts a month if you don't use whispernet all that often. The replacable battery is not available. It is not a feature that is important to me. My K1 has its original battery and is doing fine. I have not read reports of K2's needing to have the battery replaced.

I have not had a K2 so I cannot comment on the zooming capability.

I would say at the price point of the new kindle Dx I would just save up the extra $100 and get the iPad. Then you would have Magna at it's best.

otherwise I would stick to the 6 inch. The DX is too close to the iPad price wise and for your needs the extra $100 gives you Magna's best medium.

I would think that I can read most of the bubbles in my manga without zooming but for those trouble ones that pop up a couple times in certain volumes this would come in handy....I mean I don't wanna go with a ebook reader that has bad image though, Unless there is something else I should be looking at? I know the Sony 600 can but I looked into it, Do Not Want! (although mgmueller said it was good...so confused)

I can go a little higher if there is a device that is 6+ inches and can zoom for those hard to read places( Like the sony 600 can). If not I am gonna go with the Nook because it seems like its hard to convert .rar and cbr/cbz files into Kindle files(To many steps...) and I doubt the extra contrast will make it much more legible.

The K3 has no expandable memory. But the almost 4GB are more than enough to carry lot's of manga to read. When you finish just delete and upload some more. I don't use neither my devices as ebook/manga storage. I just leave some that I consider classics and want to keep with me. Everything else is my "to be read" short list.

With the Kindle you can zoom, but you must understand that eink devices aren't fast. Panning a zoomed imagem (or pdf) isn't very practical, in my opinion. Although I guess that's just my personal preference.

Love Hina can come out with little text balloons, that might be a little bit hard to read, although it's far from impossible. Probably in the K3, with better contrast, small text might actually be easier to read.

I guess a 6" device is just enough to consume manga, but if you try Kindle DX or iPad, you would never go back.

Oh man, Kindle can? Well in calibre its simple to convert to nook files...is it just as easy, I mean I just throw a .rar thats filled with images into calibre and it converts it to a epub...what do I need to do here...I heard it was more difficult...

I have read Love Hina in my e-Reader, which has a 5 inch screen. A bigger screen means more real estate for the iamge, so you shouldn't have trouble.

On an aside note, it was the first manga I ever read (and bought), 10 years ago. I'm very fond of it due to the memories it brings, and because it has hilarious parts too ^^

So wait...you can read it comfortably on a 5 inch? Really? Maybe I should just get the nook then...I mean the kindle3 looks nice but I want to hold a lot of stuff on it...16gb cards are cheap now...30 bucks.

What reader did you use btw?

That sample image is a lot bigger than what you'll see in a 6" screen. This is how it will look, if you try to fit the full image:

Edit: it will look a little bit sharper, it's the jpg compression that is giving the blurry look, I resized it with paint

Oh, and of course, the whites will be light greyish. This image is only for you to sample the size.

Generally, a bigger screen is better for manga (especially ones with tinier type) but truth be told, I've been able to read them just fine on my jetbook lite. So far I've been able to read Biomeat and Bitter Virgin without issue, and if there's any you want me to test for you I'd be more than happy to toss them on here. The JBL DOES however have a tiny screen so it's not ideal for certain manga, and barely suitable at all for extremely wordy shoujos and seinen.

Since you're planning on using one for manga though, I highly recommend lilman's program Canti, which has been invaluable for turning my manga into pdfs.

Over that image looks much smaller and more unreadable and smaller then when I tried them on the 600, Yeah I went to my local staples and they only had the sony 300 and 600. I basically could read everything...and the nook will be more readable because of the higher contrast right?

But yeah I agree, 600 has been exaggerated a tad bit imo. I rather go for the better screen though...

Mitchi I actually have been turning them into Epubs, Is that worse?

Ideally I would love an 8 inch but it seems like that wont happen unless I spend 300+....Which I find insane might I add, its only 2 more inches

What reader did you use btw?

I used a Pocketbook 360. 200 ppi, a higher resolution, helps a lot with manga. I can tell.
