iRex had its debts paid and they operate now under the name IRX. They dropped iLiad and DR1000, but DR800 is still supported.

I know that it doesn't have a replaceable battery but you should take a good long look at the K3.
It currently has the best screen on the market. I belive that it can be rotated so that the buttons are on the left hand side. It is lightweight so easy to hold and small enough to fit into a coat pocket. While it does not have a replaceable battery, it is suppose to last one month on a charge. You can choose the 3G with WiFi model or the WiFi model only. Both would work well for you if you have a WiFi hotspot in your house. The 3G version uses AT&T. |

What you want, unfortunately, does not exist. To my knowledge, no ereader currently on the market will fill all your requirements. If one does, please let me know - because I would buy it in a heartbeat.
The closest thing to what you want is the PRS900. The biggest problem with it is the quality of the screen. There is some glare and the contrast is not as good as one would wish. How much that bothers you is a matter of subjective preference - you will find people here telling you the screen is totally unacceptable, and others - like me - saying that it really doesn't bother them. My suggestion would be to try to find a PRS900 in some store. If you find the screen acceptable, then you found your reader. |

My thoughts so far after feedback.

A replaceable battery is greatly desired, but I suppose if needed I could go without. Quote:

![]() Could you please PM me...or post here for aiding others...and tell me a bit more about your likes and dislikes with both readers? The Edge really does seem impressive, and I like that it folds onto itself. I'm open to hearing what anyone has to say, thank you. Quote:

The most recent orders report a shipping date of September 8th for those getting in line for the K3. That is not all that far away. If you are leaning in that direction, a few weeks of patience could very well pay off.
Also, if you are disatisfied with the K3 you can return it for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Amazon even covers the shipping. And you are not tied to the Amazon store for buying books. There are plenty of bookstores that sell books that can be converted and placed on the Kindle. |

I was unaware of the refund policy; are you sure they cover shipping to return it?
However, the September 8th date ships in order of placement on the list, I do know that. So feasibly, I may still be waiting. |

What do you mean by "tied down to one place"? You can load any DRM-free Mobipocket book onto the Kindle. You certainly aren't restricted to buying books from Amazon.

The return policy says that you cover the return shipping but the people who have returned one and posted about it have all said, at least the posts I have seen, that they received the full refund and the original shipping costs. It is possible that Amazon will stop doing that since it is within their rights to do so.

If you return it within the 30* day period they give you a a link to print out a shipping label. Shipping is free, though I would keep the box it comes in so you have something handy to send it back in in you're not sure you will like it.

Hmmm...Prof and Anarel, thanks for the info on the shipping. Harry, thank you for the clarification about the formats - I assumed the Kindle was essentially a proprietary device. Can Calibre software remove the DRM and convert formats?
I may not even need to worry about DRM, but it's still the principle I'm against with something I'm paying for being locked like that. My three choices are now the K3 Wifi, the Sony Daily, and the Entourage Edge. I have a feeling once the holidays hit, the prices may lower, especially for all of the other color choices. |

Calibre can't remove DRM from files. In fact, it won't even allow you to use them with it. You need to remove DRM from your files in order to be able to treat them with Calibre

I see, thank you. But that *is* easy to do, right?
Realistically, all of my current files are downloads, so they're already unlocked, it's just good to know for future use if needed. Edit: Information found, thank you. Last edited by kzm007; 08-12-2010 at 07:13 PM. |
