I agree about the "laugh and cry" comment. Wars, political infighting, and then suddenly you are laughing at the "butter bugs". I love all the Miles books. I've read all of them more than once, and thoroughly enjoyed them every time. I loved the comment in the time-line in the back of one of the paperback editions: "Miles hits 30. 30 hits back".

OK, so I've finished the first two books, and I have to admit they were way better than I was expecting. I'm glad I tried them out.

Cryoburn ARC! yay yay yay yay yay yay yay yay off to read
... Er, just to give more substance to this post, for those that are looking, the first five chapters of Cryoburn can be read online, and the eARC can be bought at Webscription. The proper version will still be out in November. Anyway, has anybody else read it yet? As is probably clear by now, I'm also a fan of Bujold's works, in particular the Vorkosigan series. My favourite works are Memory first, Cetaganda second, Mountains of Mourning third. I think the only Vorkosigan story which I found a bit disappointing in comparison to the others was Diplomatic Immunity, though it's still a quality story in its own right. |

Reading it right now!!
Oh, how I've missed Miles.... And judging from the first few pages, he hasn't changed much. ![]() I made myself put it down because I'm afraid I'll just burn right through it, and I want to savor it a little bit. Although I've read the whole series, some books more than once, I've been listening to the audiobooks in bed at night when I can't sleep. I finished listening to "Memory" a couple of weeks ago, and last night I was listening to "Komarr." Okay, I'm going to go read a few more pages now. |

I just finished the ARC of Cryoburn. Excellent, exciting, wrenching -- it's classic Miles. I am so SAD that I've finished it already, though.

Ok.. Remember me? The one who complained about Romance Novels in Space?
![]() Finished "Mountains of Mourning" this afternoon and loved it. Yes.. It's a detective novella in space, but SF is adept in combining genres. Well written. I've got a copy of "Young Miles" on my TBR pile, so I probably should think about putting it on the Kindle. |

LMB is just brilliant. It says it all that Miles is a midget with brittle bones, funny intelligent and the hero who you forget all that and just go along for the ride laugh cry and hope gets the girl just like James Bond etc.

Might want to do that one first. It introduces the millieu, sets the tone for the Miles stories, and Cordelia is every bit as fun as Miles. Especially towards the end of Shards of Honor when she starts stuttering... ![]() |

I have read "Shards of Honor" which is what started this whole Romance Novel thing.

Too bad, cause Barrayar is not particularly "romancey". Except for the Dru and Kou sub-plot. It is heavy into intrigue, politics, and action of the Civil War kind. And it sets the stage for some of the more critical elements of Warrior's Apprentice. (To say nothing of A Civil Campaign.)

I'm sad too. Although not a complete surprise, still, what an ending. I think I'll go and reread Shards of Honor and Barrayar now.
