Given that PRS-505 only costs a little more than the older model, I am going to take the plunge and get the newer model.
The only reason you want to go with 500 is if you want to install non-roman fonts like Asian languages, which you can do now with the universal flasher. I don't think you can get that with 505 soon (since the flasher won't work on 505).

Any idea if PRS-505 would be available on sonyrewards.com? That would be cool because I have some reward points saved.

Btw Amazon's price on PRS-500 is $20 down to $274. No reductions at CircuitCity yet.

I seriously doubt it. The only reason it was available for a while via that route was to shift stock of the old Reader, I suspect.

All I know is because my credit card took so long to be approved, someone on the phone said yes I would be able to get a Sony Reader via the rewards. So I will do my best to make sure that happens even if I have to go over a supervisor's head.

Is there no "small print" on the site saying "offer subject to availability" or the like? There generally is with these things.

Someone I spoke to on the phone assured me I'd get one via the rewards because it took then a month to approve my account. When I applied, if it had been the normal approval process, I'd have had the ability to get a 500 already. I've other credit cards and most were decided upon on the same day. The other one that wasn't, took 2 weeks (roughly).

SonyRewards has PRS-500 back in stock at 299.99. Wonder if they'll bring 505 anytime soon?

Really? I was just there last evening and didn't see any.

I bought a silver 505 (they were sold out of the blue ones).

I think they were behind the counter - I didn't see them myself. One of the clerks mentioned that they had them. Regardless, this was a week ago now, and they may have been sold.

I've been keeping an eye on the prices. There is one refurbished unit that became available at a reseller for $220.

Here's the link for anyone who's interested. I haven't dealt with this reseller myself, but CNET gave them 5 stars, but resellerratings.com only has 47 total review for them (with a score of 7.5/10).

Open box special. Maybe their demo unit if they have a storefront.
