I am finally enjoying some quiet time after a week filled with activity, starting last Friday night with my daughter's birthday campout, her having another friend overnight the following night because she couldn't make it for the campout, then having her friends over to swim several times, and wrapping it up with a trip to Six Flags Great America yesterday, for which we had earned free tickets as part of a reading program. I haven't been to theme park since my husband and I were dating (25 yrs ago). I wasn't sure how I would handle the rides at my advancing age, but I surprised myself. I'd say there was only one ride the was a mistake to ride and I stayed away from the spinning rides, but all of the thrill rides were awesome! I can't believe I did the "drop", lived to tell about it and probably enjoyed it the most!
I've only been able to pop in here and view a couple threads, so I hope I didn't miss anything as I don't know how I'll ever be able to catch-up on all of the posts I've missed! So, if there was any highlights from the past week you wish to share with me, I'd be obliged! ![]() |

BMT (Brooklyn Manhattan Transit), IND (Independent Subway), and IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit). They were merged into single system in the 1940s, and are currently a division of the Metropolitan Transit Authority, which is also responsible for bus service and commuter rail lines. It's possible to get pretty much anywhere in four of the five boroughs (the fifth is a separate island with its own rail system) by subway, but there are an assortment of "you can't get directly there from here" quirks. However, it's the largest subway system in the world, and the MTA has made considerable strides over the years in improving it. (Among other things, the air conditioning in the cars now can be expected to be working when you board, which wasn't always the case.) It's also a 24 hour system, so you really can travel at any time. The simplest subway I've encountered is the one in Philadelphia, which has two lines: a North/South line and an East/West line. Hard to get lost using that subway. To get to places not on those lines, you transfer to a bus or a trolley. Like NYC, the Phila. system is 24 hours, and you can ride at any time. ______ Dennis |

Arghhhh! I got into a patch of stinging nettles!
![]() I had gloves on and was pruning away some lilac bushes that were crumpled by a huge dead tree that had fallen earlier in the year. I wanted to clear the surrounding area so my husband could continue to cut the tree down for firewood. I was just going to go out and mow. But NOOOO! I thought I'd just prune back some of the lilac branches that smack me in the face as I mow along side them on the rider. But of course, I couldn't stop there! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My forearms are stinging! It is the strangest feeling actually! Anyone know any good home remedies? |

aloe vera. if you have the wild ferns around that have the little white nubbins on the back, these mashed up and rubbed on the stinging areas can help. whatever you do, use nothing but cold or clear water on it. NEVER HOT!!!!
