@WT Sharpe: Although I don't read a lot,(even less religion-based) I do sometimes ponder on the philosophical implication of a LOT of things we do seemingly mindlessly everyday.

Quarreling over hinduism is an oxymoron.

I like how Hinduism is described by Huston Smith in the World's Religions (Our Great Wisdom Traditions). I have the 1998 Edition and I paid it $16.95

from page 12 to page 81 it deals with Hinduism. Overall there are 399 numbered pages.

You know, we really don't know what many of those carvings represent. Researchers assume them to be female deities—perhaps fertility goddesses—but for all we know, some guy could have been carving a statue of his mate for their anniversary, or perhaps they were an early attempt at creating erotic art. It boggles the mind to think that one day in the distant future images of Madonna and Lindsay Lohan may line museum walls under the heading of "Ancient Goddess Images (circa 2,000 C.E.)."

To me, now, that picture represents a piece of wood with a funny shape, that I find pleasant to look at and hold in my hands. From time to time.

The Mother, aka the Goddess, has left many traces of her "cult" if any. We wait patiently that researchers find the meaning of this one.
