WiFi + 3G and not a moment of flip flopping on that decision. It's more flexible in terms of connection options, and the resale would be a bit higher once I decide to go that route.

Neither. I went with a Nook 3G/wi Fi
and I'm glad I did.

I have the K1 and never turn on the wifi, so no question about ordering the less expensive wifi instead of the 3-G. Most of my ebooks come from the library, and those I do order are easier to choose from my laptop. Just no sense in spending the extra money for 3G delivery since I store all my ebooks in Calibre for convenience.

I orderd a Kindle WiFi.
My Sony PRS 505 has no wireless connectivity at all and I have just bought a Huawei Hotspot, so I hope I'll be fine with it.

You put library books on your Kindle? Could you please tell me how?

So the WiFi version will suit me just fine. I'm just trying to convince myself to go for it when my K1 still works fine...though I do have at least 2 people interested in purchasing it if I do upgrade.
I found the dictionary function in the K2 worth the leap. Just put your cursor on the word. I use it a lot more.

Interesting that we are so evenly divided between the Wifi and the 3G. I'm going out on a limb here and say that 3G is more prevalent among non-US members.

Me too, 3G, Graphite case, lighted cover & 2-year warranty. I figure I'll put the iPad off until sometime next year.

I never turn on wireless. I had it on when I was waiting for 2.5, and ended up downloading it and installing it manually. Although I bought the next Sookie Stackhouse book walking onto the plane, that was 3 years ago, and I have never bought another book via my kindle. I wait until I am at home and ready to dedrm it and load it into Calibre.

Besides, I have to start saving for K4!

That would make sense.

I notice that Amazon is sold out of both flavors. It seems obvious that the lower price of the wifi version is driving those sales, but surely there aren't enough foreign purchases to account for the 3G being sold out...?

My own purchase was driven by the smaller form factor and the claim of a much superior screen. Price almost enticed me to the wifi version, until I reflected on the convenience that the one time $50 difference would buy for me.

Interesting, my argumentation was the opposite. Initially I intended to order the 3G for the convenience of being able to order books anywhere I want to. Then I began to argue that I will be able to do that with the WiFi only model. WiFi hotspots are so prevalent here in Sweden, and cell phones now comes with with the capability to function as a WiFi hotspot for your laptop that I figure that will more than cover any future needs of connectivity. So I decided to make a one-time saving of $50 and immediately bought myself an Amazon Gift Certificate for $75.

If you don't hold the phone, Kindle, etc. just right and go to the proper room in the house, you probably will lose the connection. And when I do have connection it is rarely 3G! WiFi in my case will be rock solid and faster. For those with good 3G coverage, then 3G is a good option.
Last night I tried to use 3G on my KDXG to download a 24MB book. I tried for over two hours and it kept timing out. Throughout the process my KDXG 3G connection maintained 2 to 3 bars. After two hours I had nothing to show for my troubles but a half depleted battery. I finally gave up and downloaded the book to my PC and manually copied it to the KDXG. That took no more than 2 or 3 minutes total. I relate this not to diss the Kindle's 3G, but to point out that AT&T sucks at 3G in my area of Dallas/Fort Worth. It just reaffirmed that I made the correct decision in going with WiFi only on my new K3.

BTW: I downloaded the same 24MB book to my iPod touch via WiFi in appx. 1.5 minutes!

3G For Me

The more I look into the field of e-readers, the more I like Kindles. Between the WiFi only, and the 3G+WiFi, I would go with the 3G+WiFi. I travel enough to make it the one to have.

Apparently AT&T wifi hotspots will be free (no password required), and when traveling I almost always have free wifi where I'm staying.

Finally, I'm planning to get a Droid X when Android 2.2 is available on it. It will allow sharing its 3G with up to 5 wifi devices. I'll be able to extend this to my laptop and new Kindle. Of course I'll be paying for that ability but adding Kindle will not add to the cost.
but there is no AT&T in the uk...what will be point of having 3G in the uk?

can 3G be used in the UK.How will it work?

please help.
