I know this sounds kind of odd/weird. maybe a military secret best kept secret... when we would go out on long patrols and invariably not have enough cold weather gear with us, invariably some kind of weather would come in and when it was time to sleep we would be cold and/or wet. we would all get in a puppy pile, technically a "ranger pile", basically a big spooning session and share body warmth. those are some of the most safe secure and comforting memories I have

I'm here for you too KK. Spoon or a hug, whichever you prefer, or both even. No agenda, no hidden motivations, nothing other than a simple it'll all be better before you know it, and if not I'm here.

Well the cat is out of the bag now ... one of first exercises in the Marines we ended up doing that - we just called it a cat pile, after the piles of kittens you see in the window at the pet shop.

Stupid me didn't read the fine print where it said my reserve unit was a cold weather, mountain warfare unit. When I had to leave the pile and stand watch I thought I was going to die. I honestly, seriously thought that that was it and I was going to freeze solid. After I few years of experience and training the worst part of nights like that was knowing you weren't going to die.

Seriously though, if I think about it there are a lot of things that when they happen in those sorts of situations you think nothing of it. It is only after the fact when trying to explain it to someone that you realize not everyone will see it that way
